What do people here think? I recently moved to the Bay area and am not really a fan.
San Diego has always been very pleasant when I've visited. People complain about it being boring, but I'm not really sure why.
I'm assuming some degree of Los Angeles bias since this is a Lakers forum. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

Lame Poll with no Orange County..
That’s because it’s not the worst place in California poll, although to be fair, Fresno and bakersfield could compete with Orange County. _________________ “We must always take sides. I understand why San Jose made the poll due to population. But I'd take alot of cities not on this list over it.
San Francisco makes living in LA sound affordable. Plus, when you think of California weather. You aren't thinking about the bay.
San Diego is a fun getaway. But I imagine it could get boring to live there compared to LA. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better”

For me, it depends on whether I’m on vacation or for every day living.
I love beach cities for vacation like Santa Cruz or San Diego but not sure I’d want to live there.
Why not for San Diego?
Because San Diego is lame? _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” ― Elie Wiesel
OC probably has the best maintained roadways and has much wider freeways than other parts of California. Too bad most of the OC, especially the Irvine area is nothing but boring tract housing.

San Diego is a chiller version of LA. The weather is around the same, you don't have the insane traffic that one experiences in the LA area. Problem is if you like attending sporting events forget about it....they have what, the lowly Padres and maybe SDSU Aztecs football/basketball.

Orange County is all suburbia.

I actually like Newport Beach, but in a day trip or weekend getaway sort of way. There's not enough there for me to actually want to live there and it's too far from Los Angeles.
Irvine is Stepford Wives territory. I don't understand the appeal. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:
LA's gigantic, and there's so much to do, thus can be overwhelming. But if you can mobilize, you're in biz.
San Francisco is great (albeit crazy expensive), and unique in both a geographic and aesthetic sense. If I had the capital I'd probably settle there. Wouldn't mind living in LA either. San Diego is chill too, and not as expensive.

San Francisco would have a real chance of being the state's best major city if it weren't for all those selfish, awkward tech geeks who have made living in many of it's neighborhoods virtually impossible unless you make $100,000+ a year. _________________ Lakers 49ers Chargers Dodgers

Nowhere near anywhere you'd want to go. _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” ― Elie Wiesel

Right, it's the tech geeks and not inane zoning laws that makes building new, dense, and vertical housing impossible.
Anything beats San Jose. San Diego and LA are sprawling messes. San Francisco wins by default. Though I'd probably pick San Diego or OC if I were in my 30s.

The homeowners are selfish (bleeps) and don't want to see their home values decrease, so they elect people who enforce stupid zoning laws. I feel like at some point the state of California needs to step in or something. Homelessness is out of control. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

Do many people with families actually live *in* Los Angeles or is it mainly suburban sprawl? Apparently there are houses in Los Angeles but places like Beverly Hills, Pasadena, Glendale, Burbank, Santa Monica, etc. are all their own cities despite proximity to the main parts of LA. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

The LA metro area is huge. Obviously a lot of people don't actually live within the LA city limits as a lot of people commute here.
