While Carmelo Anthony is absent with an illness tonight against the Spurs, the Rockets and Anthony are discussing his role and how they might still be able to proceed together for the rest of the season, league sources tell ESPN. Talks are fluid.
lol
Melo is looking for a starting position on an all star team...any G league availability for him?

: The Houston Rockets and Carmelo Anthony are seriously weighing his roster situation. Sides ruled him out tonight in San Antonio due to "illness" — after he practiced fully with team Friday, league sources said.
Anthony has played in 10 games for the Rockets this season, starting two of them, and is once again struggling on both ends of the floor. He's shooting just 40.5 percent from the field overall and 32.8 percent from 3-point land.

My guess is either Melo finds a niche or the Rockets waive him. They are one of the 2 western conference teams that are severely underperforming along with the Wolves.

That is weird. What is there to discuss? You do what your coaches tell you. He and MDA should be talking. So this sounds like a "maybe we should part ways" conversation.
The Rockets have denied they are waiving Carmelo Anthony, but two sources close to the situation say Anthony has been informed that his brief time with the team will soon be ending. Anthony has been listed as "out" for Houston's game tonight against Indiana due to illness
Melo getting the bum treatment now. I'd saw well deserved given his ego and inefficiency and no defense. _________________ Showtime 2.0

He's a gunner and his career trajectory is pretty similar to Iverson....once they are no longer the #1 option on the team they cannot accept their new role as a bench player. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot superstars like a Vince Carter or Grant Hill in this league, players where teams used to build around that have successfully transitioned to mentoring younger players in the league and accepting their much diminished role on a team once they have aged.

Guessing defense. Especially Trevor Ariza and Luc Mbah a Moute
Ariza is now a defensive liability? That's ironic since it was what he made his name off of... _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

Their offense also sucks right now. They're 27th in offensive efficiency and averaging only 101.5 points per game.
I'm sure Melo is contributing to both in a bad way. He needs to just retire and maintain what's left of his dignity. _________________ Lakers 49ers Chargers Dodgers

It just continues to show how important it is to not just dump your defensive anchors for the sake of adding a name. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

Lets talk about this in a serious manner.
This is all about his performance and ego.
Too little performance, too big of an ego.
I was surprised he came off the bench in Houston since that was the first time it wasn’t about him, but the reality set in that the Rockets did him a solid.
There probably wasn’t a team that really wanted him. Hell, the Hawks waived him, that loser team. Instead they took an even older VC.
China or Big 3 here comes Carmelo.
Otherwise retire and enjoy your millions.
Bye. _________________ "This trophy removes the most odious sentence in the English Language. It can never be said again that 'the Lakers have never beaten the Celtics.'" -Dr. Jerry Buss (1985) R.I.P., 33 x M.V.O.
I'd give him a shot. He was always going to be bad in a mda offense. If it doesnt workout cut him
Really? The argument was his friend CP3 was going to give him great shots. I never heard anyone say Houston would be tougher for him. And on the Lakers he would take minutes away from other players.
He also played no defense in Houston (and OKC).
Don’t you have to suck to not play well in a Mike D’Antoki offense with an elite PG? If he can’t get layups, three-pointers and can’t get to the line then why should a team want him?

Ariza and Luc are no longer Rockets.
Oh, that makes more sense. I forgot Ariza went to the Suns. How is Paul's defense at this point in his career? _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

They weren't dumped, they left as free agents.
They added Melo like a month later.
I don't think MDA wanted him in Houston after his experience on the Knicks, it was the front office that was after him
Anthony simply missed open shots. Case-in-point: 17.6 percent of Anthony's three-point attempts last season were defined by NBA.com as "open." He made 30.5% of them, a lower percentage than Rajon Rondo has shot on all three-pointers in his career, not just the open ones.
This season has been even worse. Anthony is taking 6.4 three-pointers per game this season, and 20 percent are defined by the NBA as "wide open." He is making 29.2 percent of them.
Houston has given up 111 points per 100 possessions with Anthony on the floor this season. That is exactly equal to the 29th ranked defense in basketball last season, the Cleveland Cavaliers.
