has anyone seen a video that compares what fouls are called or not?
particularly for harden and for lbj?
it would be most interesting if it is in the same game like on thursday.
nba refs came out to explain why something is a foul.
however, can they defend when one player gets all the ticky tacky fouls and the other gets hacked and nothing? |

The difference is LBJ is unnaturally strong and fast so when he's fouled it doesn't look like much.
Harden sits his ass on the ground even if you don't touch him. Harden flails around and waits for the whistle. |

Yup. Harden exaggerates the contact. LBJ does the opposite. So calls get missed when you do that. |

Harden should win an Oscar for all the freakin' acting he does, right now, I can't think of any opposing teams star player I dislike more than him, maybe Westbrooke... _________________ “Always remember... Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.” |

No. When you exaggerate contact, you aid in inducing the foul call. When you do the opposite, and play through the contact, it makes it harder for a ref to make the call in real time. |

complaining foul calls for Lebron sounds weak... seriously, he gets favorable calls more than the average NBA player
also, dude is stinking up at the FT line, so you don't want him near there anyways. _________________ "Now, if life is coffee, then the jobs, money & position in society are the cups. Also, he puts himself in the position of the defender. Let me explain, on the play the refs initially posted on twitter, where he was "tripped" due to the knee contact, well, I will argue that he is slick enough to position himself in a way to get that contact by adjusting his hips just enough to shove himself underneath the defenders knee, and hence "falling" from contact.
When he was driving to the basket and got "shouldered" by Lonzo, once again, he was slick and quick enough to move just right into Lonzo's space to draw the contact. In what world is that a foul? He got the shot off, he wasn't impeded heading to the basket. So in other words, the refs are saying to the defender, just get the hell out of the way and let the guy score. You have no other option, if you try to get into position, we're going to call the foul. Yes, he was slightly bumped, but who got into whose space on that drive? Defenders need to be able to defend for crying out loud.
See, I remember a time when Kobe would pump fake a defender, get him in the air, and literally risk injuring his shoulder to get a legitimate contact foul call. How often did Bryant get hacked, prodded, hand checked, tripped, so on and so forth with absolutely no calls? If he was in his prime with these Harden-esque calls of today, he would take 30 foul shots a game, and that's not an exaggeration.
Tired of the justification of this crap. Every year it seemingly gets worse. I understand the idea that the NBA is trying to "create" stars, but this is just blatantly bad, obvious to the 10th degree. _________________ I miss you Kobe. I miss you Gigi. |

it would be nice if all players play harden by putting their hands behind their back or just straight up.
that would force some type of change in refs. |

You can’t compare to Kobe era (even less to Jordan era) because of the rules changes. NBA loves that the scoring is up. Average fan or TV audience wants to see the 130-128 games.
The dunks and open threes. Not the hard defense and restriction of movement that was from another era. Even “hard fouls” have been legislated out of the game. NBA wants that unimpeded down the lane dunk to be a highlight reel. Not the meet the man at the rim and let physics take over type of foul that puts a player on the ground. Players have no fear in today’s game. As with the Ball on Harden breakaway “foul”. Ball had the audacity to stay close. NBA prefers giving the fans the big dunk and flex. Better for ratings.
As for James not getting calls (along with other Lakers) it is tough to not think it is selective at times. James used to get those touch fouls. Fo years it seemed that Kobe would get mugged on a nightly basis and other stars got calls. Apparently now James turn.
As a fan, I just want to see it called fairly on both ends. If a ref blows a whistle for undercutting Harden when he kicks out then blow the whistle on him when he closes and undercuts on a shooter too. |

Well, if you make the argument that Kobe would have taken 30 FT attempts per game by today's rules, then, that means Harden is doing exactly what I said which is taking advantage of today's rules. |

I brought this up on twitter yesterday. Would love to see the commisioner and head of officiating review tapes and explain to the Nba community why the same stuff results in a foul and FTS for harden and a no call for LBJ. For years there have been issues with the way NBA games are called. The way Harden is officiated is ruining the game. You all do realize Harden has attempted more free throws in his career than Fgs? I believe its about 200 more free throws than fgs. I do believe that is the first time in NBA history that has happened. In comparison when you look at Magic, kobe or Lbj the number is extemely lopsided in the othet direction as if should be _________________ “What is 17,505”

No, in the context that Kobe would not get legitimate foul calls, and if the refs were as whistle happy for him back then as they are for Harden today, he would legitimately take 30 free throws a game. Harden's fouls, for the most part, are not legitimate. _________________ I miss you Kobe. I miss you Gigi. |

So then the only conclusion left is that Adam Silver loves James Harden and that is the only reason he gets his calls. |

It would kind of be pointless though. I don't think there is anyone who would say, Harden is getting the benefit of the whistle more than almost any other player in the league.
What's at dispute is why.
Is it because there is a conspiracy at the highest levels of the league to put Harden on the FT line?
Or is it Harden's ability to take advantage of the new rules and induce a higher percentage of calls from the refs?
I tend to believe it is the latter and that the league should find ways to address it. |

if u think it is the latter, then someone put a breakdown video on twitter and hope it goes viral
league does not want 'proof' that game is unfair |

Tired of the justification of this crap. Every year it seemingly gets worse. I understand the idea that the NBA is trying to "create" stars, but this is just blatantly bad, obvious to the 10th degree. |
Well, if you make the argument that Kobe would have taken 30 FT attempts per game by today's rules, then, that means Harden is doing exactly what I said which is taking advantage of today's rules. |
No, in the context that Kobe would not get legitimate foul calls, and if the refs were as whistle happy for him back then as they are for Harden today, he would legitimately take 30 free throws a game. Harden's fouls, for the most part, are not legitimate. |
So then the only conclusion left is that Adam Silver loves James Harden and that is the only reason he gets his calls. |
ringfinger, you're an intelligent fan, are you telling me that between 2005-2011, Kobe would get the same kind of calls that James Harden is getting today? Is the contact that Harden receives today, for the most part, as blatant as the contact Kobe received? I ask because Bryant got mugged on thousands of obvious calls that James Harden would get today with 25% of the contact he received back then, and he gets the whistle without hesitation. _________________ I miss you Kobe. What I am saying is that Harden INDUCES the calls by exaggerating contact.
There's no debate, at least from me, that if you had a neutral machine calling every contact of skin to the opposing player's skin, that Shaq, Kobe, and all other players would receive a SIGNIFICANT increase in foul calls. In some cases, we would probably see some players get even more free throws than James Harden.
What's also not in dispute is that Harden is the beneficiary of foul calls more than any other player.
The only thing that's in dispute is -- WHY?
Is it because it is by explicit direction from Adam Silver or another high ranking official within the NBA? |

Harden gets foul calls because he is smart about drawing them. It's annoying to watch, but that's the reason, plain and simple. |
