someone on reddit posted how in 2007, the 3rd and 4th leading scorers on the team were SMush and Mihm, both of whom were out of the league 2 years later.
It ties to all this like so...
During that time, the Kobe vs Lebron was in full force just like today. Back then, they were saying how Lebron was dragging this awful team to the finals etc. Now, they did recognize that KObe didn't have a great team, but it wasn't emphasized to the point where it was commonly known. With LBJ, it was like talked about every minute. THey win a game, and they mention how again he won despite his bad squad. His squad had like freaking all stars and stuff on it. All those guys were good players.
NOw they are trying to do the same...say how lebron is dragging this sorry bunch. But the issue is LEBRON. not the other guys. It's always this deflection because nobody wants to admit it...he aint great. He's fundamentally not very good at most things in basketball, on a very general level. But the stats right? |

The moment the media and the fans started the King and Witness crap is when it became a no-return situation. There was literally a mural of LeBron in Cleveland with his arms stretched out as if he was blessing the city. They took it way too far. As a result, his fans are extreme and so is the media agenda.
He's a good player. But that's it. He's not great and the proof is evident.
Still doesn't have a patent shot or go-to move.
Still struggles in the half-court.
Still struggles with free throws
Cannot accept responsibility without telling people how much he accepts responsibility.
Cannot co-exist with teammates without there being drama.
I can go on and on... _________________ “There are no limits. There are plateaus, but you must not stay there, you must go beyond them. If it kills you, it kills you. A man must constantly exceed his level.” ―Bruce Lee |

it's all true. now, i know this is a little too negative...here's the only positive thing about him that i see. he can bring stars because he is so popular, and he gets calls. like the other game vs rockets, harden drove right into him and harden 99% of the time gets that call, but this time, lbj got the call. lbj is the bigger star (and they both do the same stuff). so that's huge, especially in the playoffs where those critical calls matter. it's all on the refs in today's nba anyway. even bi gets calls that he wouldn't get without lbj on the team. i'll even say, kobe never got the superstar calls that people think he did. he spent years in the 2000s just getting hammered like he was shaq. so this is a big difference.
now about bringing stars...he did fail with AD, that worries me. because without this stuff (ref calls, bringing stars) lebron is just a decent baller but cant (with his skills) drag a team to wins. like pg last night...that guy is practically a perfect basketball player. locking guys down on d, hitting clutch shots, juking harden with his own medicine, he's amazing and i regret so much that we got lbj instead of him. but hey...whatever right...
the year is probably lost. hopefully we getinto the playoffs and play the warriors in 1st round, that way we can see where we need to improve on in the offseason. if we dont get anyone this summer, its bad. that means were going to not win rings and have to watch lbj as the main attraction, which is boring. the bullock pickup was great. and thank god we still have kcp. |

THIS, how can someone who has a shaky jumpshot, zero post game and a poor free throw shooter be called the GOAT? |

Kobe’s greatness was like MJ
His intensity infected teammates
He would score and then go defend the oppositions best perimeter player.
However in fairness to LBJ
He’s never had the all time great coaching Kobe and MJ or Shaq and Pip had.
This season isn’t on LBJ though
This is a team that would struggle to win 20 games for the season without LBJ. Unfortunately the FO underestimates the need for that second star player. In hindsight we probably should have been more aggressive and willing to give up assets in a Jimmy Butler or PG trade. |

So you are going to take LBJ off the team and not replace him with anyone? Yeah that team wouldn't be very good.
The team won 35 games last year and trending upwards. |

That was a 35 win team with Randle and Lopez.
So if you keep them. How much do you really have left to sign players that are on meaningful players?
I don’t see how the team would be better in the short run without Lebron.
In the long run yes.
However the key hole or mistake here was that we failed to sign or trade for a second star. Lebron has had one or two other all stars on every roster he has played on for the last 8 years. |

the lebron experiment here will be a complete failure if we don't get the other two stars by next year. And if we don't even get one, oh boy, it will get real bad in here. |

I don't know if we need two more stars, but Magic has pretty much bet the farm on his two max free agent strategy. Personally, I was never a fan of it, but we'll see if he pulls it off. I am dubious if Magic knows how to put a team together. |

Lopez took 4.5 million. Randle 9 million. We had space for 2 max players. |

Randle and his agent wanted out the second we signed Lebron. Signing Randle to a multi-year deal would've meant no 2nd max free agent this summer. |

You sign him to a 12 million/ year contract and you can easily trade that if you have a FA ready to sign. You don't lose young assets for nothing, period. |

Ok. Let’s assume Randle and Lopez stay even though neither really has indicated they wanted to. Randle in particular wanted more money so a team that he could showcase himself more would help. Anyway let’s assume they stay. And you add someone else than Lebron. Who are your additions that make the team better than it’s currently set up.
To be a contender IMO
You need 2 all star players, one a MVP level player
Great depth around them
The Lakers have the MVP player.
They had enough depth.
They just didn’t have that second all star.
Coaching is possibly an issue as well. Luke hasn’t seem to gotten through to the team enough on a consistent basis.
The hardest thing to get to be a contender - the MVP player. We have. We have the means to trade or sign a second all star. We have enough assets to be deep. The issue here is simply time. We needed to be more urgent in getting the second all star. We need to make this move ASAP. Not trading for Butler or PG even if it cost Ingram was a major mistake. The Cavs were urgent when they got Bron in 2010. He signed one year deals to enforce that. In LA the 4 year deal gave Magic extra leeway, when in reality it was even more urgent the deals be made right along with signing Lebron.
I’d await until mid July to dump on Lebron and the FO. They can rectify this plan by trading some assets for a star and signing a major free agent. |

Considering this team is now trending in a downwards direction even from last years team by the end of this season, perhaps continuing the direction we were going or at least keeping the pieces we had while headed there would have probably been the better choice. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

The only way not signing Lebron and instead continuing the direction we were going would've worked is if we would've gotten an MVP level player who can carry a team and close the deal.
As much as I like AD and want him, I'm not convinced he can win a ring as The Man.
Maybe we could've waited on KD this summer, but can he carry a team to a world championship without a 1b-type like Curry?
Maybe we could wait on Giannis in 2021, but that's taking a big risk since Milwaukee is arguably the best team in the east. He could easily sign an extension within the next year or two and leave us stuck in mediocrity.
I've never been a fan of Lebron, but imo he's still the best in the game now. He may not be clutch or have the personality where he needs to win a world championship to be happy a la Jordan, Kobe, Magic or Bird, but at least he knows how to win one. _________________ Lakers 49ers Chargers Dodgers |

Would Curry have won 2 more Championships in a row without a player Durant whom is the reason he didn't win Finals MVP last off-season when he destroyed the Cavs hearts in game 3 for the second season in a row and made LeBron and the rest of his team quit as a result?
I think people are seeing that the problem in OKC wasn't Durant, nowadays.
I sometimes think about when Shaq left the Magic to come to the Lakers. How so many people were pissed he left Penny and the media was all like "their time was coming." and all "Shaq couldn't get it done." and "well when they made the Finals they got destroyed."
But Shaq paired up with someone better than Hardaway, and they went and won the Championships Shaq and Penny never would have.
Durant and Curry are winning the Championships that Westbrook and Durant never would have, but also that Curry may have never repeated. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

Well getting Durant does two things at once, makes us way stronger, and the Warriors considerably weaker. Maybe Durant can't win it all without a 1b player, but neither can Leborn. |

Lebron would need 1b 1c 1d to win, and poses an extra problem as he is assigned the role of 1a yet plays like a 5c. |
