Just like the title says. In theory, if you could take a time machine and rewind to just before the 2016 trade deadline when Magic officially took over as POBO would you do it?
Just as a refresher, these were the assets we had prior to that 2016 trade deadline:
-D’Lo(year 2)
-Ingram(rookie)
-Nance(year 3)
-Randle(year 3)
-Clarkson(could be considered an asset at the time)
-Lou Williams
-Potenial top 3 pick in 2017 draft(top 3 protected)
Negative assets:
-Freshly signed Deng/Mozgov(4 year contracts) |

Would have waited out the Moz and Deng contracts, kept all the youth, traded Lou, Clarkson, and Nance for picks. _________________ Previously LBJ23 |

Nope. Its a process to get out of this sucktitude. We are STILL on the right path, even with some bumps in the road. _________________ Darvin |

Would've tried to foster a relationship with Jules'/PG's agent and find a way to get him here to play with our youth. _________________ "Chick lived and breathed Lakers basketball…but he was also fair and objective and called every game the way it was played."

nah that would have been a decent but not good/great/contender team. And after paying up Randle, DLO, and the BI the next season there'd be like no room to even improve. _________________ (bleep) Kawhi |

Yes, would've drafted Fox over Ball and prioritized PG13 over LeBron. |

that still does not get PG13. PG13 is such a beta male he was not leaving his new alpha Westbrook, with or without Lebron here. Only way to get him would have been trading assets for him out of Indiana but I doubt they really would play ball with us just like Spurs and Pelicans. _________________ (bleep) Kawhi |

Maybe so but I think the Lakers would've at least gotten a meeting if they had treated DLo and Jules with respect. |

Sure. I never liked the two max FA plan, so I'd be good with a do-over. |

Mitch wouldn’t have been afraid to trade for him and there would have been no agent conflict. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Maybe. We did seem like we were on the right path, patient, ready to stay the course, maximize the youth, while still being in contention for superstars. At the same time, the media had so thoroughly shot to death any credibility that Jim and Mitch may have had, and it did genuinely *seem* like NBA teams were starting to buy-in to that and freeze us out. We were striking out with agents and players, unable to gain much traction (maybe by design/part of the coup, maybe because Mitch really did "lose it" like it was suggested). I also am very much certain that many important people in Lakerland, Jeanie especially, were opposed to the Lakers experiencing any further success under Mitch and Jim -- tough to say I'd want to go back to that time.
I'd likely do it, but with the caveat that I'm not sure we'd be much better, although we'd probably still have lots of that dreaded, dastardly "potential". |

There's a rumor that PG signed with OKC very quickly because the NBA's investigation revealed that PG lied to the NBA and indeed did coordinate his leaving to LA while under contract. Signing with OKC basically made the issue a moot-point and ended the sure-fire objection that would have been raised if he did indeed sign with us.
Doubt that happens under Mitch. |

Yes, only to keep D'angelo Russell, who was our best prospect by far including the upcoming draft that season (Lonzo). Can't believe Rob Pelinka traded him for a salary dump that wasn't even necessary at the time. |

Comeon man...a bunch of average young players and some washed vets and being capped out is the right path? You can’t believe that. |

We would still have had a max FA slot last year. Moz and Deng are expiring contracts this year. Moz has already been moved again. "capped out" is nowhere near where we would be.
"Average young players" depends on your bias
Washed vets was Maginka's vision. The previous guys brought in guys like Lou Williams to contribute. |

no offense but given the current climate and results, I think 99% of people here would gladly reverse time.
Randle
Kuzma
Ingram
Russell
Lonzo (assuming it wasn't Fox or Tatum)
Zubac
Wagner (assuming not Robinson)
Nance
Svi
Clarkson
+ current lotto pick (possibly depending on FA)
+ max space that would have still gone to LeBron or PG or if not, Kawhi this summer? Plus the current lotto pick |

Obviously reverse.
If we can't even build a decent team after signing lebron james then the chances of a championship team are pretty bleak.
At least the younger team would have a bigger window and without the drama lebron brings with him. We would still even have enough room for a max despite having moz deng on the roster.

Most definitely yes, Mitch and Jim suffered through years of tanking to acquire high draft picks only to have everything unraveled by Magic and Rob. Lou, DLo, JR, Zubac, all quality picks all gone and what do we have now? Another lottery pick!!! (hopefully a high one) I'll go the record to say I'd much rather have Mitch and Jim than Magic and Rob right now. Can we still get Mitch back? We need someone with experience and Mitch was part of our last dynasty. _________________ Playoffs is good enough. - Jeanie Buss 2024 |

Hell no. We were rudderless before, Being rejected by Carmelo Anthony and Aldridge for max money. That front office sucked, and we’d be just as bad with them still here. Don’t miss the old crew at all. |

No, Mitch and Jim would have managed to sign some random guy for 20 a year and left us with some miserable contracts because of their desperation. |
