Oh gawd Luke was super dumb at some stuff. |
I think it was a team effort at being super dumb. Luke, Magic, Pelinka all did a stellar job at ignoring the center position and putting poorly balanced lineups on the floor.
That said, Luke put Hart in a bad spot. A few minutes of Hart at PF in a speedy lineup? Fine.
28 minutes of Josh Hart banging against guys who have 25 pounds and 5 inch height advantages? Game after game after game? Stupid. Lo and behold, Josh's knees act up, Josh plays through injury, his game falls off, and some fans declare that he sucks and always sucked.
Group effort at being super dumb IMO. |
While Luke wasn’t the greatest coach the shooting was Magic and Magic alone fault. |
That's like saying it's not the fault of the guys who are shooting, but the guy sitting up in the booth.
In the 17-18 season our 3 best shooters by 3P% were Hart (39.6%), KCP (38%) and Kuzma (37%). Combined, they shot 38% on 14 attempts per game.
That is a large enough sample size to predict a continuation in the season to follow, if not an improvement, considering 2 were rookies.
Instead what we got in 18-19 was these same 3 players shot a combined 32.9% on 15 attempts per game.
Our 3 best shooters didn't just slump, they went into a season long free fall. Explain to me how that is "Magic alone fault"?
It seems to me the bigger issue was these guys never learned how to space the floor playing Lebron ball.
And I remember when they were running drills in training camp and preseason, and GT broke down film of the offense and gave an ominous observation about how the schemes didn't seem to create open 3's, or even favor 3 pointers at all. That was an indictment on Luke, who Tim Harris and Jeannie didn't want to fire. So I ask again, how is that "Magic alone fault"?
Seems more to me that people are hurt by Magic's words and want to make a scapegoat out of him. Pinning all the blame on one guy is just a lazy way of ignoring the bigger issues with the team and front office. |
Because despite those 3 shooting that way in 2017, the Lakers were DEAD LAST in 3p% as a team.
That alone should be enough of a redflag for any competent FO executive to say "we need more shooting regardless." So yes it's magic fault he was so incompetent to not realize something very obvious and address it. |

I could understand being upset.
He tried to work on other parts of his game, but his role was limited.
When I saw him gunning for the summer league mvp, i had mixed feelings.
It's good that he working on his game.
But he's not good enough to play like that in the regular season with the roster we have.

Arenas really does understand this game. I agree with him in that josh hart should be played at the point on a lebron team because at the end of the day lebron is the point guard.
I wouldn’t be opposed to a bench of
Hart
Reddish
Lebron
Kuzma
Wagner

Someone should get Gilbert on their coaching staff. He would be really good with players. He really gets it from their perspective. I wonder if Jason Kidd is that way _________________ “like I never left”

Interesting.
When I listen to Gilbert, I come out thinking: No wonder you're not in the league anymore (or it was cut short when it was). I feel like he would be a horrible coach. |

I think he’s really smart. He gave hart some good advice in my opinion.
“Play your game”.
We drafted hart for his defensive versatility, mentality, and all around game. Just go out there and do you.
I also didn’t have an issue with anything hart was saying. He was verbalizing his frustration with his situation and he got some really good advice from someone who has been in his situation. I feel like josh was lost up until this point trying to find an identity in this league and he may have what he needs to get past that.
Sometimes the development of a player is all mental. Hart def puts in the work he’s just having an identity crisis as a player lol
I feel like he might be a better player after his convo with Gil.
Also explains Hart’s shooting slump halfway through the season. Some coach said something that got in his head _________________ “like I never left”

I actually think Josh needs to be traded, if he's going to have a Gilbert Arenas mentality, without the Gilbert Arenas skillset. |

He's a great player. I remember at the end of the 2017-2018 season when he was balling out and there were a large portion of fans who said Hart alone made the D'lo trade worth it lol. Hart can shoot and plays fearless, he can be our own Marcus Smart. |

I think he’s just expressing his concern. He sounds like a young player that’s coming to terms with the business side of basketball. He has never had to deal with all of the politics before. I think he will adapt and be just fine.
I also don’t expect him to turn into Gilbert arenas lol I think he knows his limits. He said himself in the interview that he doesn’t see himself as a 15-20 point scorer (something like that). I think his issue is that he sees himself as more than just a 3&D player that stands in the corner.
If he takes arenas advice he’ll just play his own game. If he does that he will be fine, he just has to do it within the flow of the offense. _________________ “like I never left”

Good riddance to osh Hart, a horrible bricklayer. Now I'm glad Tragic didn't draft White cause trading him would've been much more difficult to take. |

Bad defender, mediocre shooter with an ugly form, and some questionable comments recently... can't say I'll miss him too much. Enjoy New Orleans |

The kind of guy you’d want on your side in a fight. Should have a nice NBA career as a guy off the bench and a gritty 7th or 8th man. Thanks for all the effort and good luck! |
