This is wrong on many levels. The woman is forced to allow her tormentor to visit a child, the result of a incident she most likely wants to forget. C'mon Alabama get your $hit together. 🤬

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) - A 32-year-old woman in Birmingham, Alabama says the state's laws have forced her to face the man she says raped her again and again. With Alabama's recent abortion ban, Jessica's story has gotten national attention, showing how the state is failing rape survivors. Jessica asked to have her last name omitted from this story to protect her children. |
Quote: | The man that raped Jessica still has visitation rights to her two children. The judge told Jessica she'd have to spend 48 hours in jail for each visit she denied her rapist. |

How can you be found guilty of a crime of this magnitude and still get the benefit of visitation?
Then again, I guess if we are separating certain rights like voting/parenting from incarceration then I suppose one could make the argument.
Just not one I’d agree with. |

He was her uncle, got her pregnant four times, and married her (which was annulled due to the family relationship). He was never convicted of rape and apparently never charged. He wants visitation rights. It’s hard to know what to make of this, other than the obvious fact that this is a train wreck. |

Ahhh. Well, that does pose somewhat of a problem, unfortunately. |

I wonder what the laws regarding visitation are in AL.
Like what does one have to do in order to lose visitation rights. |

Probably similar to the other 49 states....this case is just gross, but not sure if the family court judge had much legal ground to stand on to deny visitation. I do not know all the details, but it sounds like the system failed this woman long before she arrived in family court. Then my counter would be family court is often compared to kangaroo court where low level judges often make questionable legal decisions without much accountability. |

To say the least |
In West Virginia, they call it a romantic drama. _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” ― Elie Wiesel |
