|
|
Lakers drafted 13 players since 2014.
-Julius Randle
-Jordan Clarkson
-D’Angelo Russell
-Larry Nance Jr.
-Anthony Brown
-Brandon Ingram
-Ivica Zubac
-Lonzo Ball
-Kyle Kuzma
-Josh Hart
-Moe Wagner
-Svi Mykhailiuk
-Isaac Bonga
Pretty staggering that out of all of them:
1. only JC got an extension (nearly 50m over 4 years).
2. Kuz likely only one who will stay (Bonga/Wags possibly gone).
If this was our Process, the turnover is staggering. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Yeah. Not a good strategy.
Can’t acquire all your players via FA.
Theres also zero sense of loyalty, which could come back to haunt us too. |

It would be so poetic if DLO comes back though with Jules. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Clarkson can ride high knowing he was the only one paid by the Lakers out of all this. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

I thought we would finally learn to be patient and build through the draft. Then LeGroin... |

Best part of our organization is the scouting department yet here we sit. |

It's gotta be frustrating amassing all these players from a scouting department point of view only to see them traded away year after year. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

I'm not defending the FO at all. But, 3 or 4 of these were really throw away picks (Brown, Svi, Bonga and Wagner). Yes, realistically the jury is still out on Svi, Bonga and Wagner. But, none have shown much, if anything at all. I think those are fair to acknowledge. All the rest of these players showed clear flashes early on that they were at least reasonably solid picks at a minimum.
And then 3 of the best are being used to fetch a legit elite star.
There's no defending the squandering of JR. Should have at least gotten something back for him even if he wasn't in their plans. The DLo debate isn't anything I need to add to.
Overall, it's sobering to realize the impact that the Magic & Rob era had on our young assets. |

Building through the draft is extremely difficult. So many treadmill teams like Phoenix and Sacramento. The point of drafting in the lottery is to acquire a HOF talent to build around. No HOF player in that group, only complementary players. |

DLO already made an all star game.
I think Lonzo may make some too.
Not sure if BI will be a perennial all star, could.
Jules, doubtful though he could make a few probably. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

And now DLO is up for an extension. People balking at 20m+ a year for him.
BI up the next year, is he really worth 28-29m/year?
It becomes tougher when a YUTE is up for an extension. Lakers clearly seem to not believe they were worth keeping, and it's insulting and hilarious that only JC was thought worthy of keeping (at the time). _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

IMO holding onto players who have not played to expectations and signing to inflated 2nd contracts is just as bad as mindlessly getting rid of them.
A smart team in the rebuild process should be making shrewd moves on their young prospects and try to sell high on the ones who dont appear on the trajectory you want. _________________ (bleep) Kawhi |

What would people pay for these players this summer if they were RFAs?
DLO
Jules
Lonzo

If we end up with LBJ/AD/KL, I would be very happy. I'll be borderline upset if it's LBJ/AD + etc. |

Yeah. I know Kobe was technically a trade, but he grew up right in front of our eyes. Fans wanted to believe we'd get an all time HOF level player with our draft picks, but I don't see any of them with HOF level talent. Not sure about all-NBA talent either. I do think Lonzo/BI can make all-defense, DLO already has made an all star game. I also think Lonzo/BI may sneak onto a few all star teams, but not be surefire ones. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

I was going to post something similar. And Mitch handed out draft picks like they were candy. |

That JC deal was low key another notable failure of the Jim/Mitch regime. It's in hindsight, of course, but kind of ridiculous that they signed him to that deal in the same summer as MozDeng when they knew (at the time, pre-Maginka) that extensions were on the horizon for Dlo, Jules, etc. |

Zo has a serious uphill battle to make the Allstar game IMO. West will for the next 3-4 years: Curry, Lillard, Harden, Klay, Fox, Doncic, CJ, Mitchell. And if Kyrie comes this way, add him in there.
Julius could make it in the east and BI I'm just not sure. |

The Lakers may have trouble scheduling workouts for elite prospects should they find themselves in position to draft one again. |
