It's gotta be frustrating amassing all these players from a scouting department point of view only to see them traded away year after year. |
Philadelphia made 27 draft choices in the 5 drafts since they started their process (2014 thru 2018).
Only Korkomaz, Bolden, Simmons, and Embiid are on the team now. Embiid is the only one who received an extension, and he's one of the 2 best big men in the game.
Covington and McConnell (undrafted finds) make it 5 for 29 if you will, but considering the other all star doesn't fit with their big 4 (and 2 others barely play), the total could be 2 for 29 by the trade deadline.
Edit:
I forgot Zhaire Smith, he was injured and spent most of the year in the G-League. |
If we had an Embiid level player, we would not likely be trading him. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

If they kept that entire team they’d be a questionable playoff team at best. DLo was an all star replacement. Randle will be going to yet another team. Saying ball will be an all star when he’s been hurt and a non offensive threat his first two years is a rose colored projection.
If there were any dame lilliards or embiids there, they’d be extended. _________________ 17 time World Champions |

Yep yep. Wasn't that Hinkie's whole plan? Keep tanking till you get legit superstar talent, and if the guys you get aren't that, get rid of them. The Lakers never got that superstar talent. Fortunately they were able to trade what they had for one so it worked out. |

If we had an all star "replacement" on this team we'd be hyping him up as the next greatest thing since sliced bread. The amount of side-stepping just to poo poo the kid is beyond me.
I do still think DLO was/is the best prospect of the bunch. If I had them in order (top 5):
1. DLO
2. Lonzo
3. BI
4. Jules
5. Who cares... _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Pretty staggering that out of all of them:

Imaginary Team comes calling and told the Lakers will trade u LBJ and AD, but it will cost u Randle, Dlo, Nance, Bi, Zu, Ball, Hart and Svi and 3 1st.

The two guys we could and should still have had (and we wouldn't be thinking of wasting cap space on centers) are Zub/Bryant. They would be our center tandem with AD closing out games. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

It'll be interesting to see how much they let BI dominate the ball on the Pels with Zion/Jrue/Zo all needing touches. They completely lack shooting which seems to plague BI/ZO teams and Zion didn't have many marksmen on Duke too. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

No, but it's not that binary. We let Bryant go for no reason. Zub, we did it for Muscala who was a dud. Those weren't necessary to get AD/LBJ. It's a false choice you're presenting. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Look at it from another perspective - would you make this trade if LeBron wasn't here? Would you make the trade if you had to include Kuzma too? If there were no restrictions, how many additional draft picks would you have been willing to add before walking away? |

I think E'Twaun Moore will eventually start over Lonzo for that reason.
If Lonzo doesn't come out hot, Lavar will be on Undisputed talking about a master plan of getting Lonzo traded to a bad team so they can win the lottery and draft future MVP LaMelo. Because that's the real championship next year. |

Well we were going to lose Zub anyways. He is a Restricted Free Agent and is probably going to make more than his qualifying offer of 2 mil.
Thomas Bryant- I was scratching my head when they cut him for nothing. And Im still scratching my head almost a year later. |

As it was in the 90's, "rebuilding" means killing time until the big free agent is inked. Then you can proceed with tearing apart the team. |

Both Kuz and JC were drafted way below their skill (as was Kobe if you want to get ancient). While it shouldn't, I think that matters a lot in how their narratives are shaped, although once JC got paid all bets were off on that front.

This should be the overarching slogan of our player development policy |

Imagine you were watching a television show for over 40 years with 82 two hour episodes each season.
It was super exciting the first 40 years... but the last six years the show took a turn for the worse after some stars retired.
The show wasn't great but it was interesting and you enjoyed watching the new cast members as they developed the story.
Then they hired the biggest movie star in Hollywood to take over the show...
He decides midseason that the entire cast has got to go.
So you spent 1000 hours of suffering through the show over 6 years... only see the cast get fired.
I realize this isn't the perfect analogy... but perhaps it communicates the frustration of investing all that time in something only to have it arbitrarily changed.
I'm not talking about cutting the cast in half... I'm talking about complete reboot.
Most people spent 70 hours watching Game of Thrones.
People spent 6 hours watching the first Star Wars trilogy only to be pissed at the next 6 hours.
Imagine if in its final year... the producers fired the entire cast of Thrones and replaced them with Chris Hemsworth and Robert Downey Jr.
These men are good actors and huge box office stars but it would still be annoying to see them change everyone after watching 1000 hours.
I get that it's possible that maybe the show is better after the cast change.
But when you change everyone... it's also possible it can be worse
The hiring of these two movie stars cost so much money that we will have little budget to buy new actors for possibly 7 or 8 years.
Again... not an exact analogy... but I think it conveys the frustration at investing enormous amounts of time into a product... only for it to be changed not necessarily for the better. |
