It looks like Dorian is headed straight for Adkindo. Seriously, though, when the weather types start talking about Category 4, it gets my attention. Sometimes these projections turn out to be alarmist, and the hurricane will arrive as a Category 1. Nonetheless, sometimes the projections turn out to be accurate.

I'm glad Dorian skirted Puerto Rico. I don't think Trump would be as quick to act as he is now that it's threatening Florida, Mara Largo, 29 electoral votes. He canceled his trip to Poland to be here while the hurricane is a threat. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

That is the thing....just 48-72 hours ago it was projected to get broken up with the higher elevations of Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic...and not really be an issue for the SE United States. Then a slight turn spares those locations, and suddenly the east coast of Florida is not yawning at an expected Cat. 1 Hurricane / Tropical Storm, and are now in full panic mode fearing a Cat. 4 Hurricane. It is a war zone out there...I have seen two verbal altercations today (at the Pharmacy and gas station) because of the stress caused by these storms. The gas stations that do have gas only have 87 because that is all they are restocking right now, and it looks like the Carter Administration with crazy lines. My gut/hope thinks it will come in a little more south than they are currently projecting. In between Jupiter and Palm Bay is one of the least populated areas in the state on the East Coast, and that is likely the preferred landfall.
One thing that I did not really grasp until I became an adult was how and why these storms stress communities. The elected officials and newscasters calmly give these great instructions about stocking up on this and that....make arrangements for your pets, etc. etc. That is all fine, but what if you are one of the families that does not have an extra $200 to stock up on supplies? School just started, and I am guessing some families are already working out of a hole financially. Not everyone works on salary, and if a storm takes them out of work for a few days or longer....they often simply do not get a paycheck for that time missed. Also maybe schools will be closed, but the parent can't miss work next week, and does not have resources or family to help for a few days. My point is if you are middle class, then most likely the storm will be an aggravation that causes you to go without power/AC for a few days...and maybe force you to submit an insurance claim. The truth is a lot of people are not in that comfortable of a position, and the stress from these storms is real for those people.

I wonder if Volodymyr Zelensky being in Poland played a part in Trump canceling his trip? _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

something weird that I forgot to mention.....like I said the lines at gas stations, hardware stores, grocery stores and big box (WalMart/Target) stores have been crazy long all day....like cars lined up down the side road onto another main road. The other line that that I saw that was outside the parking lot and many cars deep down a main road was Popeye's Chicken. It has been that way all week....saw something about people going crazy about their new chicken sandwich or something. That cracked me up...people like "we have to get gas, batteries and water immediately.....but first we need to wait an hour in line for this chicken sandwich."

They will be waiting for a long time because a couple of days ago Popeye's announced they are literally all sold out of the sandwiches nationwide _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

hmm, yeah not sure then because it was not normal. I noticed it earlier in the week, then saw something about their new sandwhich online and put 2 & 2 together.....but they were at least 15-20 cars deep beyond their parking lot today. I have never eaten at that Popeye's but go by it daily, and I have never noticed a line before this week.

11PM update has it making landfall (or the center of the cone) in this exact area just North of Palm Beach. Good for me, but if it continues to trend South, it is going to get into the Fort Lauderdale / Miami area and that would not be good in general.
Some of the spaghetti models still have it coming right for you. There is one that actually shows it going off on a cruise in the middle of the Atlantic. This is such a weird time when you're staring down the barrel of a hurricane.

yeah, this morning several of the models have it making landfall east of Lake Okeechobee / Everglades then riding the coast until at least South Carolina. If it comes in at a Cat. 4, then turns North up the coast, that will not be good for me....I am only about 15ish miles inland.
At least at 15 miles you're out of the way of the storm surge. From the talk I've heard about the king tide or whatever it's called, the storm surge could be really ugly.

yeah, a solid 15, and that is air miles....it takes me 25ish minutes to actually drive to the coast....but yeah, no storm surge for me. Also, my Subdivision has never had a flooding issue....but there are two next to mine that have had flooding issues in a few of the storms....one even had water near to roofs of some houses in one section. They claim they have made a lot of infrastructure updates to handle the water since then. In regards to Hurricanes, my biggest fear during the storm is the Tornado's that almost always spin off them....because it is in the middle of chaos, and it seems like there would be almost no warning.
Yep, tornadoes are what worry me. Because I live in a forested area, falling trees are a major issue, too. There are a lot of 60-80 foot pines around here.
The projected path is chilling. It sounds just like what you were worried about, with the storm still a Category 2 when it gets to Jacksonville. Sheesh.
So now it is veering toward South Carolina. As I said, this is such a weird time for people in the path. You have to prepare for the worst. It almost feels disappointing when the hurricane decides to go somewhere else.
