Nope, Rondo was above.. all 3 those equal about 10M |
Ah.
But AB was the room and you can't mix and match that right? |

What's most concerning about the Lakers giving up these leads is that it gives opponents confidence that they're never really out of it if they just play hard against these backup groups. Not being able to close out games w/ your bench guys just means a more leveraged Bron/AD. |
|
It’s a good point.
And why would teams like Denver or Houston even sweat 15 point deficits against the Lakers. |
But by playoff time, we'll be staggering LeBron and AD anyway no? |
I just don’t think it’s enough against a team like the Clippers. They have neutralized Lebron/AD in 2 games. Denver has capable personnel too.
Time will tell, but I wouldn’t want to rely on just their greatness. Also nervous every time I see a Lebron cramp or AD shoulder dislodge...those minutes be adding up. |

Rondo signed fo vet min. AB was the room exception.
If Lakers wanted to spend $10m, it would have had to been from McGee, Cook and either Cousins or Caruso.
McGee getting $4m and Cook $3m should have really been $7m on another rotation player. Both McGee and Cook should have been signed for vet min. |

Rondo is horrible. Looks asleep. Balls slipping through fingers, careless turnovers, cringeworthy forced shots. Not being able to shoot has really exposed his game. It’s really really ugly. |
I can’t really fault Kuz because that’s about all he can do with Rondo monopolizing 16-18 seconds of the shot clock. |

Cook yes, McGee probably goes elsewhere.
Also, by spreading the space over fewer players, we lose some capspace for the extra empty roster spots. So subtract about 700k per player removed, or $2.1M in this case.
I believe we'd have to lose Caruso, Cousins, Cook, and McGee to have signed Lamb for $10.5M.

I LOVE our bench (with one exception). The problem is obviously Rondo (on most occasions). I don't want to pick on him as he does have value and has his good moments (few and far between). We have no doubt given up leads in the 4th quarter and it is something to be concerned with. Rondo usually can not hold the fort down (which is why Collison will be a HUGE pickup). Things get magnified when LJ is forced back to action. He is usually ball dominant in 4th quarter (being realistic) and kind of forces the issue. He has a propensity to hold on to the ball way to long, eating the clock, and throwing up a tough shot. Our offense becomes stagnant and again, this is where Collison will be huge. |

Rondo is horrible, I don't understand how he plays more minutes than Caruso. Also, LeBron and Rondo don't play well together, if Rondo must play some minutes, it should be when LeBron is resting. |

I’m surprised nobody is talking about the fact that Caruso has been our the last game and a half. I feel that just giving Caruso a lot of Rondo's minutes the last two games would have made a big difference.
Of course getting Collison would also be great! |

Rondo is a vet min player who averages the 2nd most assists on the team after Lebron, and has a decent 3 point shot, and the most penetration passes on the team aside from Lebron. He is a decent signing for the vet min, we just use him wrong. We have to get a more competent 2nd unit around him, and also get another scoring guard like Collison, this would ease off the need to rely on Rondo so much to create.
But by far the biggest reason our 2nd unit has not been what it should be is Kuzmas inconsistency. He has not been the player we thought he should be. That is not to say he has been bad, because IMO Kuzma has improved two areas that I value - Defense and corner 3 point shooting. But he did not take ownership of that 2nd unit and really be that consistent threat we were hoping. He seems to actually play best as a 2nd guy when AD or Lebron are in, to take pressure off.
Another thing one has to look at is that Frank has had to shift due to injuries the 2nd unit a lot. Only Dwight has been consistently there. We have seen KCP move to the starting lineup. We have seen Cook run the 2nd unit with Rondo out early in the season. Then we saw Daniels come into the rotation when KCP moved into the starting 5. Kuzma has been in and out the lineup and 2nd unit, meaning Dudley has gotten some time. Bradley comes back on the 2nd unit, messing up the chemsitry there.
It can be fixed with some consistent health. We have some major league impact bench guys with Dwight, Caruso and Kuzma. We just need them out there - when we have all 3 guys out there for a few string of games, the 2nd unit gets better and better. Rondo is not a huge difference maker at this point in his career, but until the Lakers get someone like Collison, I would definitely play the guy who can hit a 3 and looks for penetration passes, vs Cook or Bradley at PG.
Our 2nd unit had a nice run of games before these last 2. Why - health. First change was Kuzma. Second was KCP. Third was Caruso. 4th and 5th change were Rondo and Dwight. And AD or Lebron stayed in with them. So we had a major league #1 scoring option (lebron or AD). We had defense and impact with Caruso and Dwight. We had a second shot creator with Kuzma. We had a point guard that can handle the ball and make penetration passes and even create some dribble penetration off screens, in Rondo. If we run this rotation we will be fine. I would welcome Collison, but I still think the rotation can not be what it should be until we have health from Dwight, Kuzma and Caruso in the same game. |

They are going to probably play it smart and go hard for Collison and then once the buyouts start happening that's when the real feeding frenzy will happen among the contenders.
I'm sure they will be going hard on the trade market as well for a small Ariza, Shannon Brown kind of deal as well but only if they feel it clearly improves them.
Also, our bench is going to look much better when Lebron or AD will be in pretty much at all times in the Playoffs as well and the rotations shorten.
Collison alone would give me full confidence of being able to beat anyone though so hopefully that happens. Perfect role player that covers several of the biggest flaws so far this season. |
Really? They traded Zubac for Muscala. Svi and a pick for Bullock. Less than lateral moves. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

This whole idea of the bench being bad/not good enough is horse crap. Fact is our bench has one of the highest +/- in the league, among the highest on FG%, 3pt%, Blocks and Steals. The areas where our bench needs to improve are Defensive rebounding (This is a particular concern as Kuzma just isn't a factor on the glass) and FTA/FTM (Another particular concern because nobody on our bench gets to the FT line and even when they do they all are poor shooters except KCP).
Games where teams come back from behind happen to every good team on the league with the exception of Milwaukee. Nobody does nearly as much talking about the times where other contending teams lose big leads or lose outright to lesser teams. The Celtics were down 18 to the Hawks yesterday and nobody is talking about that. The Heat lost by 20 to the Magic. The TWolves nearly beat the Bucks without KAT.
But the Lakers, who haven't lost to a sub .500 team all year, get crap when teams get within 10 after being down 30. You all do realize other contending teams LOSE to some sub .500 teams, right. I think we can play better but I could care less as long as we stay healthy, win and play our best basketball when the playoffs begin |

Rondo is at the minimum for someone with 10 years in the league -- $2,564,753.
Bradley was signed with the room exception.
So you can't combine their salaries with Cook and create $10 million in cap space. |

If championship favorites Clippers could barely beat us with all our stars playing injured and Kuz on a minute restriction, then either they're trash or we're pretty close. |

The reason that the Clippers are better is the benches. |
But they barely managed to scrape home? With Lebron playing injured, and AD playing injured, and Kuz on a minutes restriction which meant the Clippers could cheat and flood the paint and the Lakers were forced to play a 3 guard lineup to close, a full strength Clippers team ... scraped home.
If Kuz wasn't on a minute restriction then we win that game, and if we had Collison instead of Rondo we win that game.
So for all the Clippers superior bench ... it didn't really create all that much of a difference.
And we can still greatly improve because of our weak bench, but the Clippers cannot because their ceiling is limited by their superstars.
We're actually in a pretty good situation. If all we have to do is upgrade our bench, we can do that pretty simply. For the Clippers to win they need to upgrade their superstars.
Good luck with that |

Activity:
1 Describe the Lakers' offense.
2 Now remove LeBron from that description
3 Now remove AD from that description.
There's nothing left. The Lakers need to install an actual offense if you want the bench to hold leads without LBJ on the floor. |
