That's what he wants. He wants us to be afraid and too paralyzed by the chaos to put up a fight. That's why he wants the military to squash the demonstrations. THIS IS HOW DICTATORS ACT TO ACQUIRE AND KEEP POWER.
This is not hyperbole.
People say oh well he can't postpone the elections, he doesn't have that power. Have you met Bill Barr, the GOP Senate and the right-wing Supreme Court???
I think every Congressional Representative and Senator should call for his immediate resignation. Then we'll go from there. |
I’m all for our elected leaders for call his resignation. That at least is proactive and puts him in the defensive. But a ceremonial impeachment in the middle of a pandemic and civil unrest across the entire nation just hands him the election in November. He won’t even have to cancel it or rig it. |
Please delineate how exactly standing up to Trump's play to turn himself into a dictator hands him the election? |
You weren't talking about "standing up to Trump". You were talking specifically about impeaching him again, and that's what I am addressing.
If the Dems go through another impeachment that results in no meaningful result, that just becomes more ammo for Trump's victim campaign.
There are plenty of ways to stand up to Trump without engaging in political posturing that can easily be played as partisan BS.
And the reality is, the guy is imploding. He's grasping at straws and those straws don't have much hope of saving him.
He's going to screw himself. There's no reason to risk screwing ourselves in the process. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

And that's what it would amount to, which is why we can't let what he might do but can't do make it easier for him to get re-elected. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

National elections can be legally delayed until December 2nd. Beyond that would require a new law. 1st Tuesday in November is simply a compromise date based on the realities of life in 1845. _________________ I'm On point, On task, On message, and Off drugs. Under the best circumstances, the congressional process of impeachment is slow and deliberate. 7 months from now someone takes the oath of office.
Spanish Flu
The Great Depression
1968 Riots
Those are the closest comparisons to what is going on right now. All at the same time. Not a chance in hell that impeachment would be prudent or realistic in the time frame where it would help. |

I'm still skeptical this will hurt him come November. I don't think Trump leaning voters care what happens to black people or people who support BLM.
They'll keep listening to Fox News, AM Radio, and reading Breitbart and the Washington Times. He could've shot Floyd personally and it wouldn't matter. And he's immune to any checks and balance including impeachment.
He's 99% a king. All that's left for the final 1% is rigging an election. Sad thing is. He'll probably get caught doing it. And it still won't matter. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better” |

I don't think anyone would disagree with you on Trump's base not moving. The hope is that the few remaining people in the middle (suburban women), minorities, and younger voters will react to this by realizing how monumental this election is.
I'd like to see how white voters and older voters react to this, which is where Biden has made some gains, especially the latter. They could potentially buy into Trump's "law and order" nonsense. We'll know more in about a week. _________________ ¡Hala Madrid! |

True story, the first morning after Trump was elected, I woke up listening for tanks rolling through the streets. Of course that was crazy, he hadn't even been inaugurated yet, but that was literally my very first thought. Well, it's taken a while, but we're getting there. |

You're right we'll know more soon.
And I don't like being pessimistic. I hope you're right about these "middle" voters.
It's just Trump has been soooo divisive. That when I hear people somehow clinging to "the middle". I don't trust them. Either they are woefully uninformed. Or they're looking for an excuse or cover to support Trump come November.
That's just how I see it. Hillary was the middle in 2016. Pelosi has been the middle since then. And both are under water if you look at favorability vs unfavorability numbers. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better”

Only his cabinet can invoke the 25th and they are all as bad or worse then him because they are blind sycophants (many of whom should know better) who have sworn their allegiance to the orange hitler instead of the Constitution. May they all burn in hell along with their orange hitler. |

That was a pretty perfect response. Trump's weaknesses play into Biden's strengths. Biden needs to do a version of this daily. |

It is sad that Republicans and their Fox News Wingnuts have so perverted the public political sphere that Democrats can't use the very tools the Constitution granted them to deal with a lawless President. That is sad. |
