I feel he's a backup in case of injury or sickness; just my O. He'll probably get some burn in the warmup games though. |

How is JR Smith on defense? |
It ranges from occasionally decent to mostly poor to sometimes awful. Mostly he doesn't put much effort into defense and his mind often wanders, resulting in stupid mistakes. He's considered one of the easiest guys in the league to screen off the ball.
That's been his rep for the past 5 years or so. He hasn't played an NBA game in 18 months, but I doubt the guy who famously said "Defense isn't my area of expertise" is suddenly going to be good at that end of the court. |

Matchup dependent but I would go:
Starters:
AC/DG/Lebron/AD/Javale
2nd unit:
Rondo/KCP/Kuzma/AD and Lebron split/Dwight
No chance that they don’t use Rondo for 2nd unit PG so it is what it is.
Small ball mix and match lineups:
Lebron/DG/JR/Markieff or Kuz/AD
Waiters/KCP/AC/Lebron/AD
JR/DG/KCP/Lebron/AD
Closing lineup (we saw this defensively strong lineup quite a bit to close some tight games):
KCP/Caruso/DG/Lebron/AD
Vogel has a ton options. Versatile roster, just need enough points out of everyone not named Lebron or AD. |

Considering how well Caruso plays off LeBron, that's a no brainer.

At this stage the question is more like: Does his budd fit the pine really good? Especially at the very last end.
I think Dwight will see much more minutes in the playoffs and with AB out the ACs minutes will rise as well as KCPs _________________ White guy to white guy alley oop |

I think Alex is our best option as well. Bradley's P&R defense is a major part of our winning formula. And I think Alex is the best option to replicate that. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better” |

Good call, that identity is key. It also keeps a scoring balance for the 2nd unit with KCP, and keeps him in that role. If AC gets ice cold, he still starts but gets pulled quicker. |

For the last two Cook absolutely as you can always use a shooter. The last spot comes down to how you project a few going down at the same position. Is Dudley the emergency center? It may be Cacock, they're very deep at guard |

Depends on which Rondo we get.. I like the idea of KCP in the starting 5 but if Rondo comes back looking like "playoff Rondo" I would be content to see AC in the starting 5 with a bench of Rondo, KCP, Kuzma, Morris, Dwight.
If Rondo is looking like he did in the regular season, I'd start:
KCP, Green, LeBron, AD, McGee with a bench of Caruso, JR or Dion, Kuzma, Morris, Dwight.
Either way I expect a lot closing games with:
AD
LeBron
Kuzma or JR or Morris
Green
KCP |

Caruso 22/Rondo 20/KCP 6
Green 26/KCP 22
James 38/Kuzma 10
Davis 22/Kuzma 14/Morris 12
McGee 14/Howard 18/Davis 16
Something like this come playoff time, depending on situations of course. |

I want Caruso to start but Vogel always keeps calling him "his secret weapon" so I feel like he would keep Caruso in the bench as a bench jolter and a second distributor
KCP (24)/Rondo (16)/Caruso (8)
DG (24)/Caruso (12)/JR or Dion (12)
LeBron (34)/Kuzma(14)
AD (20)/Kuzma (12)/Morris (16)
Javale (17)/Dwight (17)/AD (14)
I think JR and Dion will switch off now every other game depending on who's hot for about 12 minutes a game, kinda like what Vogel did with Cook and Daniels in the past. |

Since LakersSD posted the Mcenamin tweet in the Rondo thread that he has a "significant" hand injury with an update tomorrow, here's a jab at what minutes would be IF he's out:
KCP 30/Caruso 18
Green 30/Caruso 8/(Waiters/Smith/Cook) 10
James 38/Kuzma 10
Davis 22/Kuzma 14/Morris 12
McGee 14/Howard 18/Davis 16
Either way you look at it, they'll have a 3 guard rotation with the scrap minutes going to one of Cook/Waiters/Smith. They thought enough of Dion to sign him over Smith, and will likely sit Cook unless the other 2 can't catch on or they're desperate for spacing. I like Waiters out there with KCP for the 10 James-less minutes. Each can somewhat get their own shot, hit from mid range and handle it well enough.

Laker Film Room takes
Down two rotational guards before the first game is played is rough. Vogel has a couple of different directions he can go in, but the margin for error is thin and the style of play of the second unit will probably have to change a bit. Gonna have to heavily rely on KCP & Caruso.
https://twitter.com/lakerfilmroom/status/1282532622699130880?s=21
One option is to give Quinn Cook some run. He's been especially good playing alongside AD & LeBron, but has struggled a bit against ball pressure.
That's where Rondo & Bradley's loss will hurt most - the Lakers don't have a lot of guys who can handle the ball now.
https://twitter.com/lakerfilmroom/status/1282533606510833664?s=21
That's where Dion Waiters could be helpful. He can get his own shot and score off of ball screens, which is something the Lakers didn't have in a guard even before losing Bradley and Rondo. He'd change the style of the second unit offensively, although that might be a good thing.

Lineups are not my bailiwick. The fan who doesn’t care for Rondo in me doesn’t care that much if he plays. The fan who wants us to win recognizes that this could be a legitimate problem. |

We're fine without Rondo anyway in the interim. His defense (or lack thereof) is a detriment in the first place. LeBron probably doesn't need to take too many minutes off since he's well rested so he can play at least 34-36 mins for us as primary ball handler. Rondo will probably be back by Round 2 or 3 and then he can go to his playoff Rondo form.
KCP (26)/Caruso (22)
DG (26)/JR (12)/Dion (10)
LeBron (34)/Kuzma(14)
AD (20)/Kuzma (12)/Morris (16)
Javale (17)/Dwight (17)/AD (14)

McGee-12/Dwight-14/AD-22
AD-18/Morris-15/Kuz-15
LeBron-40/Kuz-8
DG-32/KCP-16
KCP-18/Caruso-30
My play off rotation. I would use these seeding games to find our 4th guard. We need one of 1. Waiters 2. JR Smith 3. Quinn COok 4. THT to step up and be able to provide 6-10MPG in a playoff game. _________________ "He's a Zen master, so he can speak to you, and he doesn't need a microphone; you can hear him in your head, 'Ron, don't shoot, don't shoot.' JR is the wildcard. If he is on, let him fire away. Keep him on a short leash though. When he is off will hurt the team. I would expect there will be a game where he gets hot and helps the team. |
