Yuck. Get Derrick Rose for 1/4 of the price and get pretty much the same result.
No you wont. Stop it
Tell me something Derozan does signficantly better than Rose. I'll wait
Well that's easy to answer.... Free throw rate, the dude gets to the line at will.
Yeah that's not worth 4x the price. I'd rather get Rose and keep Green or Kuz or both depending on the trade package. _________________ Plan A - Schroder/Hield/Lebron/AD/Gasol

This sounds very similar to when we signed Rondo and so many people were complaining about how he would be a bad fit, and spacing and this and that.
Demar DeRozan is a BALLER. 4x All-Star, 2x All-NBA. He's been a 20, 5, and 5 guy for the majority of his career. You get a chance to add a guy like that to this Lakers squad and it's only gonna cost you an aging Danny Green and disappointing Kyle Kuzma, YOU DO IT. Both have been wildly inconsistent and haven't really provided that magical spacing that everyone keeps talking about.
DeRozan made the Craptors into perennial playoff team in the East with Lowry as his 2nd best player. Now he would be the THIRD option behind LeBron and AD. I actually like this trade better than the CP3 one in a lot of ways because he's younger, cheaper, and more durable (hasn't really been seriously injured throughout his career).
In the playoffs everything slows down and gets bogged down. And it comes down to which team has the players that you can just throw the ball to and they can manufacture points in the half-court out of nothing. You add an isolation scorer like DeRozan and you can extend LeBron's twilight even further.
Rose has the edge looking at BPM. 27M for -1.39 RPM is laughable. Rose does what you want from Derozan(drives, iso) for 7M but he can at least hit 3's on the catch. He makes 36% of 3's(38% year before) when wide open so opponents can't defend him like we defended Westbrook in the playoffs and how they will defend Derozan if we get him.
Also, the comparison isn't just Rose Vs Derozan but Rose + DG and more Vs Derozan. That's an easy choice IMO _________________ Plan A - Schroder/Hield/Lebron/AD/Gasol

Everything that makes DDR good he can't do (or can't do nearly as much) as a 3rd option. There was a reason the Lakers traded away Eddie Jones when Kobe came along. Only one ball on the floor.
If you're going to use your only trade chips, you use it on a guy who can thrive off the ball, can shoot the 3 consistently and can meet this team's identity in playing D. There only barometer if you are going to trade Kuz/Green - would the player we get back be on the floor in the 4th quarter a close Western Conference game against the Nuggets or a Final game against the Heat?
Its one thing to sign a guy like DDR in free agency. A whole other thing to trade two guys who we won a title with and who we know compliment Lebron/AD already for a player with a bunch of serious question marks regarding his fit on this team. Pass. _________________ LakersGround's Terms of Service

My concern is how to alleviate Lebron's workload.
DDR's game is similar to Lebron in their ability to attack the basket and also dish for the assist. No one can compare to Lebron in this respect but it seems Vogel's offense revolves around this type of play action and even Rondo plays similar although different in style.
Yes a defender/shooter is needed especially if DG and KCP leave. I believe this is more readily available on the FA market.

Ok. Reduce Lebron's load throughout a game or the season, only to lose at the end of the season because we have a liability on both offense and defense on the floor, or because that guy is on the bench with Danny Green on the floor to help balance things out.
We need another ball handler, but not at the expense of what works for this team to get the Lakers another ring. Don't take one step forward, two steps back. _________________ LakersGround's Terms of Service
It basically comes back to who we can get with our trade asset which is mostly Green + Kuzma + draft pick. We can use them in the same package or separately.
DDR's fit is a concern but if we are only sending away Green who is not a reliable shooter and will be one step slower on defence next year, and Kuzma who only showed flashes once in a while, then I think it is a win for us. We would still have the MLE to spend on one of Ibaka/Grant/Harkless, and the #28th pick on a rookie. We also have the ability to bring most of our role players back.
Rob needs to explore the realistic trade target. I would also like to assess Houston's situation and if they are blowing it up, we should see if we can net Covington via a trade.

Hard pass on Derozan. We have Lebron and AD so you're going to add a third option who can't play defense and shoots 20% from 3 on a big contract? Just keep our tiny bit of trade chips we have until an actual trade becomes possible that helps us.
This is reminiscent of Lou Will on the Clippers imo where both of these guys are great elite depth to have in the long regular season when you have a lebron/kawhi that will sit some games out but once the Playoff's roll around unless they're on fire (at least Lou has range) they're going to be a liability on both ends against the best teams in the NBA. People like to trash on Kuz but outside of the Nuggets series he was more often closer to elite defensively then a liability and is still just young enough to show more progress next season. Our team is clearly built on the defensive end, not a good look to trade for a 3rd option who's non existent on that end.
On top of all that the Spurs are absolutely not going to trade with us while Pop is still there unless they are getting the drastically better package back imo.
Nope. The Craptors got better actually won a championship after trading DeRozan away. Spurs got worse missing the playoffs with DeRozan. You see the pattern. No to D-roze. We don't want no defensive liability on our team. _________________ Playoffs is good enough. - Jeanie Buss 2024
A big no!!!! If we were going after a player that is a HUGE liability on D, I would prefer Buddy over this clown. Buddy is a SUPERIOR shooter and a much better system fit for our starting unit.
Huge huge NO. He doesn't fit for us at all. Terrible shooter and average defender. I would rather keep KCP and Green than having DeRozan. He can have great games sometimes and score 30 here and there but in general I think he is not the type of player we need. Pass on him.
DG and kuz are better 3pt shooters. Paint gonna get clogged for AD and bron
That's the issue that has me back and forth. On paper DD shot an amazing 53% from the field and is money from mid range, but how will that work with LBJ and Davis? It's like you see him carrying a 2nd unit and helping take the load off of those guys but who changes their games?

In terms of 3 pt shooting, DeRozan shot 25.7% in 2019-20 which was a 60% increase from his 15.6% in 2018-19. He is a career 28.2% shooter from the 3 pt line. Link.
If DeRozan's contract was a team option for 2020-21, would the Spurs exercise the option? $27 million for a player who doesn't play defense and can't shoot the 3! In my personal opinion, Pop would waive DeRozan if he could. That salary could be put to better use elsewhere.
At this point in time, I trust the decisions that Pelinka makes.

Not in favor of Derozan either way but this argument is weak.
Lebron also left to come to us so the raptors finally didn’t have to face him in the playoffs and they played a GSW team that lost KD and Klay during the series.
Also of course Raptors got a better he was replaced by kawhi Lol

The only pattern I'm seeing here is simplistic, out-of-context takes like these.
^^^ya and just for accuracy the Spurs did make the playoffs the year after acquiring derozan but lost to Denver in 7. It was last year that they ended up missing the playoffs (the team got worse after losing bertrans with Morris backing out and then Aldridge getting hurt basically). They still came on strong in the bubble and looked good with derozan playing pf on a small ball squad but wasn’t enough to make the playoffs
