As someone pointed out on a thread, there are many deaths in the US. There are tragedies, which often don't involve celebrities like athletes and movie stars. There are great personal tragedies that never make the news. Most of us have suffered some kind of personal loss. Many suffer in silence for their parents, siblings, relatives, mentors or friends. My prayers are for those who suffer in silence for a personal loss. I can never know exactly how you feel, but I have been though some myself. It can be tough to lose loved ones or your personal health. Celebrities aren't any more human than your relative who also may have passed away, but they may have had more opportunities to help.
We may see that Pete Maravich or Dennis Johnson died of heart disease and take better care for our own cardiovascular health. Perhaps, we try to eat a little better diet to keep ourselves alive for our spouses and children. Each life is precious and full of potential. Sometimes, these early deaths help us to realize just how short life is. It's something to think about. _________________ "Darkness cannot drive out darkness. Only light can do that. It had occurred to me that some people may mistake comments on the deaths of celebrities as if they were the only ones who matter. Someone had commented on that in one of the threads about the death of an athlete. It didn't seem appropriate to mention the statistics in a thread about a particular person's death. Yet, this unpopular subject should be mentioned in a thread of it's own.
The number one cause of death for both men and women is heart disease. There things we can do something to prevent heart disease. You can do something good for you. If you care for a child, you can get him/her into the habit of checking nutrition labeling. He/she can be aware of what they are getting prior to making choices. You can help your children learn to make good choices that will help them the rest of their life. Reducing saturated fats and cholesterol can make a big difference. It starts with looking at the labels.
