On this day in Laker history:

In 2000, the Lakers and Trailblazers headed into a "leap day" clash with both teams carrying an 11 game winning streak. This was a statement game for both teams, which appeared on a collision course for the WCF, with the WCF winner most likely taking home the NBA title. The Lakers won the game 90-87, bolstered by a 23-10 game from Shaq and a 22 point game from Kobe. The Blazers had 4 players score in double figures, led by Scottie Pippen who had 19.

Anyone remember this? The anticipation for this game was electric. Good times.

100% remember this. IIRC, they were the top 2 seeds in the league at that point too. I believe record wise, Portland sputtered after that game while we maintained our pace and secured the #1 seed.

I remember that game too. That Portland team was hyped as having a ton of talent, but honestly, if it were in today's NBA, it wouldn't be that good.

Its best player was Rasheed Wallace, who averaged only 16.4 points a game and was its leading scorer.

Those Blazers would probably exit in the first round of the playoffs in today's NBA. It shows us how weak the NBA was until around 2008 when things finally improved.
