Gus Edwards is a strange signing by the Chargers. Not sure I really get it, but clearly it is a sign they want to be more physical in the run game.
But a guy like maybe an Aaron Jones would be a nice compliment. Aaron Jones ran like an absolute beast in the second half of last season and would be a great pickup depending on the price.
Hoping the Chargers are able to pull off a trade for the 5th pick also, would love to see them trade down and get in a lot of new faces as they more than maybe any other team need a complete culture change. |
Aaron Jones would be a great fit with the Texans imo. Ascending offense with CJ Stroud, and he went to college at UTEP. And Devin Singletary signed with the Giants. Or, staying in Texas, Dallas could use a starting RB after Pollard signed with the Titans, and Jones would be a big upgrade on him, at least, the version of Pollard from last season. The Ravens for him would also be fun. |

The 49ers are bringing in Leonard Floyd to bolster their pass rush. Floyd has played outside LB in the past -- could he also be a temporary replacement for Dre Greenlaw while Greenlaw recovers from his Achilles injury? _________________ Lakers 49ers Chargers Dodgers |

I don't really see it, Floyd is a pass rusher. They also signed former 2nd rounder Yetur Gross-Matos to help with the rush as well. |

Joe Mixon was released, and the Bengals signed Zach Moss to help replace him. (My guess is that Moss and Chase Brown will get most of the work there.) The Ravens, Cowboys, and Texans are 3 high-profile offenses that need a starting RB right now, and all 3 of Derrick Henry, Aaron Jones, and Mixon are out there. The Chargers didn't pay Edwards so much that they couldn't theoretically like one of those 3 either. |

Derrick Henry to either Dallas or Houston would seem to make a lot of sense.
Ravens seem to always come up with guys, Keaton Mitchell was absolutely killing it for instance before getting hurt last year and he was undrafted. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

Jets get Tyrod Taylor. Much, much better backup QB than they've had. Should give them a fighting chance to win games if Rodgers can't play. |

Houston wouldn't seem to make sense since Henry seems to be on the downside of his career and Houston is just starting to emerge as a threat.
Let Henry go to Dallas. Hopefully Jerry Jones wastes a bunch of money on him. _________________ Lakers 49ers Chargers Dodgers |

Queen signed with Seattle. Well, I suppose it can't be official until Wednesday, but that was the report. |

Correction! Queen did not go to Seattle, and today it's being reported that he's going to Pittsburgh. |

Danielle Hunter to the Texans. They essentially upgraded by letting Greenard go but picking up Hunter to replace him. It's a two-year deal with $48MM guaranteed. |

Diontae Johnson traded to the Panthers, for CB Donte Jackson. (Jackson was almost certainly going to be cut by tomorrow if this trade hadn't materialized.) The Steelers get a 6th round pick, while the Panthers get a 7th round pick. So it's pretty clear that the Steelers just wanted to find a taker for Johnson because he was due a $3MM roster bonus on Friday (which Carolina will now pay) and he's in the final year of his deal. His route-running skills also wouldn't seem to be a match for Russell Wilson's off-schedule, deep shot style. I'm guessing the Steelers will take an early-round WR now, and they have had a lot of success with 2nd Round WR's in their history. |

Wow, Derrick Henry to the Ravens.
Not sure what to make of that, he seems like a guy that needs tons of carries to get going and I am not sure that is really the Ravens offense.
He wants to win is my guess and got tired of being on a mediocre franchise for his entire career. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

A guy his age could hit the wall the following year, for sure. However, from what I saw last year, he still has juice left. It was a really horrible OL situation in Tennessee last year, and Henry averaged only about 3.5 YPC on runs up the middle. However, on off-tackle and outside runs, he was still very effective. With Lamar as a running threat beside him, I think he will do very well as long as he still has some juice left. If Gus Edwards could score double-digit TD's in that offense, Henry should be a candidate to lead the league in TD's.
Also, take a look at this:

Very interesting.
He was seemingly always running into stacked boxes in Tennessee because for some reason Vrabel was trying to win every game 9-6.
Playing with a better team is going to help a lot, I think if Keaton Mitchell comes back healthy that will be a dangerous inside/outside running back combo but I admit to wondering how much Henry has left because at times to me he has looked sluggish. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

To me he's always been a guy that if he can get running for a few steps, he increases speed. Even last year, when he's out in the open field, he can break away from guys. In other words, he doesn't have instant acceleration like some backs do, but once he gets it, he's really, really difficult to bring down. |

The Raiders are releasing Hunter Renfrow, which leaves behind a dead cap hit of about $5.5MM but saves them about $8.2MM off the cap. |

Adam Schefter is reporting that today is the day the Chargers make some big cuts.
I would cut 3 of these 4 unless they will restructure their contracts, maybe keep Mack.
Here is Schefter:
With the Chargers currently projected to be about $25 million over the salary cap, they are expected to release or trade at least one, if not more, of the players on this list. Big Chargers moves coming by 4 ET today

Mike Williams released. The Chargers are now cap compliant. So they don't have to make another move today, but I'm fully expecting one of Bosa or Mack to be cut or released to clear a lot more space.
EDIT: Mack is staying and restructured his deal to create a bit more space. We'll see what happens with Bosa, but I'm guessing he doesn't start the season with the team. |

I think the Mike Dub move was the most obvious due to injuries. Good to se Mack staying, but I don’t know what to make of the Bosa situation. I don’t see him as the type of guy that would do anything to help the team, but cutting him too would just add even more dead money.
Hopefully they can extend Keenan and free up a bit of room, then fill out the rest of the roster with draft picks and low cost free agents. _________________ Lakers, Chargers, Dodgers, Arsenal FC.

Calvin Ridley goes to the Titans, for 4 years/$92MM, with $50MM guaranteed. There will be big mock draft ramifications for yours truly, ha. |
