We're approaching record levels. The site is still holding strong. Just want to give some props to Popcorn, Larry, Jason, Fax and Phil.
Popcorn worked on some tweaks recommended by Larry a few weeks back and those seems to have had a positive effect.
Now that I've jinxed things, remember if the site goes down, move over to Lakersground.com.

Schnap, nice job to those running the site -- still running pretty damn well.

And still up and running (just a little slow). _________________ “There is always light if only we're brave enough to see it, if only we're brave enough to be it.” --Amanda Gorman |

Hhmmm....did Larry know something a few weeks back he knew you should prepare for? _________________ Courage doesn't always roar.

Couldn't hurt.
Although most of those are hosted elsewhere, every little bit helps. |

Yeah, depends on how the script is written as to whether it will help the server, but it definitely helps me |

Thanks all.
The work we've been doing centered around an observation -- the server logs show that most of the HTTP "get" requests are for image files. In fact, the ratios are pretty high -- an average of like six images for every HTML page. The images are mostly static content, so the idea is to reduce the number of times clients ask for images, by forcing the clients to use cache copies. LG's web server allows cache expiration to be set differently based on the file type, so we've been playing with longer expirations for image files. The overall effect is to reduce requests for the stuff that doesn't change, which lightens the server load. We've been analyzing the result statistically, and today was the first big test in practice -- with obvious good results.
But as you fix one bottleneck, you soon hit another. I suspect many of you are seeing the same error about being unable to connect to the database. I'm hoping that the max number of database connections is a configurable setting, and we can easily tweak it up a little.
....'til the next bottleneck... |

To paraphrase from "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World" (2003, and a helluva movie in case you haven't seen it yet), Lakersground.net is...
"... not old; no one would call her old. She has a bluff bow, lovely lines. She's a fine seabird: weatherly, stiff and fast... very fast, if she's well handled. No, she's not old; she's in her prime."

A rumor that the Lakers are trying to get Garnett draws more LG users than Kobe scoring 81 or last year's draft.
BTW, excellent work site crew. Every once in a while, I'll get an error page that says the site couldn't be found, but after I hit refresh it just comes back. _________________ Double rings > Double rainbow |

I must say, this server and template set-up is TONS better than CL. Faster re-load and all. Good work, fellas. _________________
