Can you clarify? I mean the GTR had a better Ring time than the Porsche and is half the cost. Prior GTR's ate up the competition respectively. A twin turbo v6 putting out a conservative 480bhp is nothing to joke about considering Nissan has historically underrated prior years GTR numbers...
Exactly what I mean.
Better ring time.
Half the cost.
480bhp.
Numbers, numbers.
No character.
I think it's difficult to make a judgment at this point. I can bet that only few of us, if not none, have even been inside the new GT-R, let alone get to drive it. IMO, I'd give it the benefit of the doubt. I think Nissans/Infiniti's are as close as it gets nowadays when it comes to having that "character" among Japanese cars. Plus, Skylines, to say the least, are pretty legendary.
Actually my current job has me driving all different kinds of cars on the road, so I do have a very specific taste. On top of that, what are Skyline's known for? Numbers. 4WD. Traction control systems. Great test numbers. etc. That doesn't mean I'd even enjoy that more over an MR2 Spyder.
All I see is a heavy car with great abilities that flatter a driver's skill level, but not really enhancing it.
I'd never be comfortable in one of those, I'm 6'6". The most fun car I ever drove was a race prepared RX7. It felt like it was on rails. _________________ <

Im looking into maybe trading in my current car for something else (will be looking into this). It all depends if it turns out to be a practical car that could be as fun to drive as my last gen M3.
I'm sure it'll be fun to drive, but I definitely grew out of that boy-racer phase.
Yeah, I'll take the more pigheaded STi hatch. Just a roll bar away from some good fun.

Any opinions on the 03/04 mustang cobra?
If you don't mind the heavy clutch, plastic shifter, and gritty shift feel...
Supercharged? I'd be concerned with reliability issues if the compression ratio is above 9.5:1 on those v8s...
The 03/04's came factory supercharged with a Eaton roots style supercharger, 8.5:1 compression and forged pistons and rods...
They were factory rated at 390hp though most enthusiasts say they dyno regularly above 400hp, came with a tremec t56 tranny, independent rear suspension, etc...
Couldn't the heavy clutch and shifter be easily upgraded with aftermarket upgrades?
I read about this on the M5 board the day that this happened. His original post is here. http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=111454
It's truly tragic that 5 young men had to lose their lives. I don't know how many times we have to read about some kid taking his car over the top, whether it be some civic sedan or this 500hp beast of a car.

Choose your favorite cars from each of the following categories, and explain why each car is special to you.
Convertible
Coupe
Exotic (defined as any exceptionally rare/expensive vehicle)
Sedan
SUV
Track car (including road-legal racing homologation models and non road-legal kit cars)
Truck
Van
Wagon (or hatchhback)
Convertible
Lotus Elise - High performance. Exotic-ish. Lightweight. Fun to drive.
Coupe
1993 Toyota MR2 - I've loved this car since it first came out and it will always be my true favorite. MR setup and easy to drive.
Exotic (defined as any exceptionally rare/expensive vehicle)
Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione - Gorgeous.
Sedan
Subaru Legacy - Underrated. AWD. Plenty of power for everyday commuting.
SUV
Acura RDX - Not a big fan of SUVs either but these drive surprisingly well and feel car-like.
Track car (including road-legal racing homologation models and non road-legal kit cars)
Ariel Atom - Because I want a good reason to use a helmet?
Truck
Toyota X-Runner - I'm not a big fan of trucks and this is one of the few I don't mind.
Van
Dodge Sprinter - When I think of vans, I think of long road trips where you just want to go from point A to B comfortably. So, why not have a lot of room and a wide variety of possibilities for the interior, including the aftermarket?
Wagon (or hatchback)
Alfa Romeo Brera GTA - I think it's just gorgeous. _________________ Resident Car Nut.
Convertible Honda S2000. . .quick, small, handles well. . .looks very nice. Not greatest of all convertibles. . .but most of my answers are what I would get, regardless of how much money I had.
Coupe 2008 Honda Accord V6 manual 268 HP. . .looks great inside and out. . .high performance
Exotic (defined as any exceptionally rare/expensive vehicle) Gotta go with the TZero. . .all electric. Not practical at all, but the times I did drive it. . .an amazing feeling. Not too many can drive one. Extremely quick acceleration, good handling. Girls love it.
Sedan Rolls Royce Phantom. . .all style on this. I'm sure everything else is great too. It's a Rolls Royce.
SUV The Honda Pilot. . .only because I am a Honda guy. There are probably much better looking and better overall SUVs out there though.
Track car (including road-legal racing homologation models and non road-legal kit cars) The SSC Ultimate Aero Just read about this car today. . .very nice looking, top speed of 250. I like the looks though.
Truck 2008 Toyota Tundra. . .I love the style. Never driven one, but I'm sure it drives great.
Van 2008 Honda Odyssey. . .decent looking for a Van. . .interior is amazing, very nice. Luxurious.
Wagon (or hatchhback) Audi S3. . .saw one of them recently and fell in love with it. Beautiful inside and outside. For me though, my price range, I wouldn't mind getting a civic hatch, probably 96 or older, and just JDMing it out like mad.
Wow. . .I had to look both of those up to know what you're talking about. Plethora is looking MEAN, I like it.
Freestream T1 is unreal, it looks like something from the future. That little thing is a 2.4 litre supercharged V8? Talk about flying.
The Freestream T1 is an engineering masterpiece. 500HP and 500kg. Imagine a Coca-Cola bottle with 2HP
I drove my share of pretty amazing cars(a couple of Ferraris), but never had the chance to lay my hands on something like those two or stuff like this.

T1 is fine, if you can go fast enough to get the downforce work for you.
My fav part is, when that car got tested out by both Euro shows, one was burned heavily. The other later had problems with the fuel pump. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

I'm a Euro convert. Went from JDM in my first 10 years driving to my current car, w203 m271 (c230K SS).
I'm not a big fan of a lot of the new Benz's and considering they took away free service, not sure I'll get another Benz for a while, My next car, however, will be a daily driver that'll give me great mileage on the side streets.
Right now, it's between a Smart car vs. Spyder (3 wheeler) vs. condominium. We'll see what I decide.
I actually like the GTR a lot, but considering the first ones are going to be selling so much over MSRP, I'd wait.
I'm actually waiting to see the next generation of a4's. Can't remember if it's the b9 or b10. Either way, I'm liking the concepts. Also liking the design of the RS5 (a5). _________________ Just chill and watch the new Dynasty evolve...

I'm still not sure how you can say a car has no character...
What makes you say this?
Have you driven it? Have you seen it in person?
How do you define character?
Perhaps if you said something more simple like, it looks crappy, or that it weighs too much, etc... I would understand it but saying that it lacks character is too vague for me to relate to.
A car with character means that it's design and performance are unique and give you a distinct feeling while driving it. A lot of cars don't. Esp the jap cars.
The Arizona Highway Patrol came upon a pile of smoldering metal embedded into the side of a cliff rising above the road at the apex of a curve. The wreckage resembled the site of an airplane crash, but it was a car. The type of car was unidentifiable at the scene. The lab finally figured out what it was and what had happened.
It seems that a guy had somehow obtained a JATO unit (Jet Assisted Take Off-actually a solid fuel rocket) that is used to give heavy military transport planes an extra "push" for taking off from short airfields. He had driven his Chevy Impala out into the desert and found a long, straight stretch of road. Then he attached the JATO unit to his car, jumped in, got up some speed and fired off the JATO!
The facts as best could be determined are that the operator of the 1967 Impala hit JATO ignition at a distance of approximately 3.0 miles from the crash site. This was established by the prominent scorched and melted asphalt at that location. The JATO, if operating properly, would have reached maximum thrust within 5 seconds, causing the Chevy to reach speeds well in excess of 350 mph and continuing at full power for an additional 20-25 seconds. The driver, soon to be pilot, most likely would have experienced G-forces usually reserved for dog-fighting F-14 jocks under full afterburners, basically causing him to become insignificant for the remainder of the event. However, the automobile remained on the straight highway for about 2.5 miles (15-20)seconds before the driver applied and completely melted the brakes, blowing the tires and leaving thick rubber marks on the road surface, then becoming airborne for an additional 1.4 miles and impacting the cliff face at a height of 125 feet leaving a blackened crater 3 feet deep in the rock.
Most of the driver's remains were not recoverable; however, small fragments of bone, teeth and hair were extracted from the crater and fingernail and bone shards were removed from a piece of debris believed to be a portion of the steering wheel.
Not sure what the point is since you get all wet, plus that thing sure looks like it wants to roll over under water. _________________ Forget carbon, reduce your government footprint
