System of a Down - The Metro (80's pop song goes metal!)
Serj Tankian - Cars (Gary Numan is frowning somewhere)
Avenged Sevenfold - WALK (I love both versions)
Nine Inch Nails - Get Down Make Love (orginally by Queen)
The best cover ever is probably Johnny Cash doing "Hurt" orginally by Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails).
The worst cover ever is Linkin Park doing "Wish" originally by Nine Inch Nails. The drummer is playing to a drum track, wtf l2p.

imo there are two true kings of the art of covering a song -
jose feliciano and joe cocker.
cocker does it a little too often, so you can find some "mistakes", but both he and feliciano have some amazing covers.
people who dont' know feliciano (who like cocker, does more covers than origional songs), should check out -
"california dreaming" and "light my fire"
another guy who does a lot of great covers - especially to old motown songs - is michael mcdonald.
too many good ones to mention really for all of these 3, but if you like cover songs - check them out.
also -
FAITH NO MORE - "easy"
TUCK AND PATTY - "wonderfull world"
NOUVELLE VOUGUE - "in a manner of speaking"
JENNIFER WARENS - "whole of the moon"
10,000 MANIACS - "because the night"
NATALIE MERCHANT - "space oddity"
ANNIE LENNOX - "many rivers to cross"
GLEN HANSARD - "hairshirt"
(if you can find that - PM me, heard it once on tv. was amazed, can't find it anywhere to buy or download)
ok, i can go on all night... time to stop

I am shocked that nobody has mentioned Ike & Tina covering CCR's Proud Mary. I prefer it to the original and in my mind will always picture Tina & the Ikettes dancing like maniacs when I hear it. I also love En Vogue's cover of Yesterday. I LOVE En Vogue and got to see them live a few years back here in Vegas and it was an awesome show. It was free for me but I woulda paid big bucks to see em.
Also love Stevie Wonder's version of We Can Work It Out. I could go on but it's time to go _________________ "Time wounds all heels". -John Lennon

I know people are very protective of the Beatles and don't like covers, but this is just great.

Good call -- I love his cover of Jackie Wilson's "Lonely Teardrops."
Ramones -- "Surfin' Bird" (Trashmen)
I'm a huge Johnny Cash fan, but I don't care for "Hurt."
