I've always thought that.
I think they avoid it for the sake of comparing this generation of players
to past generations. It would make that trickier to do.
I still think it should be the case though.
I also wouldn't mind if they kept track of a separate category of how
many passes lead directly (one dribble, or a pop shot, etc - like the rules
for an assist now) to a shot (FG-Attempt, made or not) - that would let
people gauge what we're always talking about with "would be" assists,
at least to some degree. |

I agree nice #'s, and IMO LO was pretty steady 2night. HOWEVER he had a very gaudy 1st half. I was hoping and anticipating a triple dub. he deserved it. he was along with everyone a huge part to the early blowout. Again though he didnt carry over his great 1st half. If he did this game would have been over by the 3rd. Props to LO. Be key to the win _________________ Lakers Tickets |

Kobe has to pick his spots. The dude has been in the league 10 years. Wear and tear man. He's going to have off nights with all the energy he spends on defense. |

They will never do it as it would make it easier to break any current NBA assist record. |
good point...imagine if they allowed it during Magic's playing days...that would be crazy. _________________ "Now, if life is coffee, then the jobs, money & position in society are the cups. Actually no. It's not a shot attempt or a rebound unless you convert (score) it. |

That probably would have hurt a lot if you hadn't included the bolded qualifiers. I guess that makes the crow taste a little less bitter. _________________ You are under no obligation to remain the same person you were a year ago, a month ago, or even a day ago. Oh I know Lionel. It's just hard to watch him struggle, ya know? He's better than this. It's just harder on me cause I think he's the most skilled player ever, then to see him struggle it's like "the world is ending!!!".
I know he's going to struggle. Still hurts.

If you catch a rebound, and then shoot it while in mid-air, they may consider that a shot if you miss it, and it's definitely a rebound.
But if you tip a ball, it only counts as a shot attempt and rebound if you make the tip. |

it would be nice if they do...but I'm sure agents keep stats like those... _________________ "Now, if life is coffee, then the jobs, money & position in society are the cups.
