Some of these folks in here certainly don't like to hear the word "tank" but realistically, they just pretending. To be honest with you, OP.. if the Lakers get Wiggins in '14, this site will EXPLODE with joy and you wouldn't heard a single "no, too much pride and class to tank or what's not". They would be happy as (bleep). |

How can we tank, and we don't even have a pick. |

Depending on KB's injury and if we resign DH, we could definately be tanking next year. We do have our 1st for 2014, we will have a ton of $, and KB will come back. If we were a lottery team, at least Stern will be gone, so he can not manipulate BALLS. |

Tanking doesn't guarantee that you'll get the top pick. It would be a gamble we would likely lose.
And this is the Lakers. We win championships. We don't tank. |

We have to be real about the situation. Two big unknowns right now are when KB comes back and whether we resign DH. If KB is out for the year (a real possibility) and if DH walks (another real possiblility), we are DONE for next year. Its not tanking on purpose, its tanking because we would have ZERO options. We are in salary cap hell, so there will be no moves. We are not going to take on contracts because we would have no chance of winning a championship (without KB and DH), and we will not jeapordize 2014. Time will tell, but we have to be real about the situation. Again, if the aforementioned comes true, its tanking because these are the cards that are dealt to us, and we would not be tanking on purpose. Prayers to KB for a speedy recovery. |

Don't even know if we need to "try." Possibility now that Dwight bolts. Then you basically have a Pau/Nash team? That's a lottery team. If Pau/Nash gets hurt, then you're seriously talking about a top pick.
If our team will be naturally horrible next year, it's a blessing in disguise to have cap space in 2014 AND a player like Wiggins locked in a long term rookie pay scale. Then you can see Kobe come back for a year or so.
Have to play this next season out correctly. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Oh, and as a parting gift, wouldn't be beyond Stern to rectify CP3 and um...ensure that Wiggins somehow falls to the Lakers. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

How? You need to lose 60+ games to have a good chance. With a healthy Dwight, no way this team loses that many. Even if you trade Pau. |

My scenario was if Dwight bolted. Was reasonably sure he'd stay, but now, if he has to look forward to scraping by to barely get into the playoffs next year, and 2014 is cloudy, would he pick us over Houston for an actual chance to win?
If Dwight is gone, this team will be Nash/Pau. They were not dependable this year due to injury, and Nash/Pau will be 40/33 respectively.
I do have my inklings about NBA conspiracies (Irving to Cavs after Lebron leaves, Anthony Davis after CP3 mess). I don't think the league wants to see a prolonged drought in Lakerland. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Go on the Clippers forum if you want tanking teams. Lakers have too much pride and class to pull that kind of (bleep). |

i agree with that (except the conspiracy theories). i didn't read your post (at the time), i was responding to the OP.
However, i do think Dwight stays. I don't think championship in 2014 was a legit selling point anyway. 2014 free agency / extra salary / rock star status in LA were the main selling points. None of that has changed. if anything, he's closer to being the Lakers "face" now. |

There is a difference between tanking (deliberate losing of games) and being horrible (which is what this team will be if Dwight leaves and Nash/Pau have injuries again). _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

we traded a lottery protected draft pick to get Nash. if we dont make the playoffs we get to keep it. Lakers can do lot of things this offseason, NOt sure if they will.
1. if kobe is out for a year, they can and "should" amnesty his $30M contract to get under the tax.
2. trade pau + meta (worth $30M total) for some young players .. or just let them finish the last year contract.
3. re-sign dwight
4. get a draft pick and possibly trade with one of the expiring contracts and get a player on longer contract + higher draft pick. |
