Is anyone having trouble condensing links? When I try to condense a link I get message "The web address you entered could not be found"
I can sometimes post the entire link, sometimes I can't. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

What exactly do you mean by "condensing"? _________________ Game recognize game, Granddad. - Riley Freeman, The Boondocks |

Some links are so long they stretch the page.
When I copy and post a link I go to URL, paste the link, label the link what I want to call the article and post. Now I get the message I posted. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

It sounds like you're saying that once you post the link, if you click on it, you get an error with the web address you entered and that's because sometimes the entire link doesn't get posted. Is that right?
If so, it's probably because the box where the URL goes is limited to a certain number of characters. I don't remember what that number is, but if the URL you paste into it is longer than the limit, then it will just truncate it. _________________ Game recognize game, Granddad. - Riley Freeman, The Boondocks |

Did you want to do this:
shots were fired on capitol hill
It took me two tries before it worked.... does it sometimes work and sometimes not?
Trying again to see if it fails to work third time:
shots were fired on capitol hill
Hmmm... worked the third time as well as second time.... maybe I just did something wrong the first time...
...jodeke, make sure the "http://" is selected in the URL window before pasting link into window..... (probably what I did wrong the first time myself).... _________________ Rule = win titles

what you need to do is paste the link after
[url=
then your link, then close it with another bracket ]
now type your shortened text
and then end with
[url=
http://www.test.com]
test

as you can see here, make sure the link is a http:// format with .com or .something at the end
test _________________ Kobe |

Just select the text you want to use for the link copy it then click on "URL" option making sure the "http://" is selected when pasting ENTIRE (copied) link into window and click "OK" for URL window (with entire web page address entered).... _________________ Rule = win titles

I do all you say. I'll try with this url
Feedback forum
I copied the link, put the cursor in the text body, clicked on URL, typed Feedback forum between url url. This is what I get. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

If you look at what your ending up with (text) you'll see it is "Feedback forum" (LOOK AT THE TYPED TEXT WHEN YOU REPLY TO THIS POST to actually see the incorrect text)
There are two "http://"'s, right?
I'm not sure what you mean by your last step "typed Feedback forum between url url"....
... that said, let's go over each step in detail....
Btw, All of the next detailed description is quickly explained with just the three enumerated steps in red at the bottom of this post in case that is enough to help thus avoiding all of my bloviating below (I'm including the detail explanation if needed however since occasionally verbosity is necessary to get message across unfortunately):
First of all, you're wanting to link to this address: "http://forums.lakersground.net/posting.php?mode=quote&p=5490668" (without the quotes of course)
Your first step is correct: "I copied the link" (as you stated above) which is the ENTIRE web address above.
You then type the text body you want the link assigned to: "Feedback forum" (without quotes of course) in the message box (to be submitted)
Your still doing just fine up to this point.....
On the next step when you say you "put the cursor in the text body", I hope what you mean is to "select" the text body (see below) which it looks like your still doing fine so far.
You want to SELECT the entire text body: "Feedback forum" (without the quotes of course). To select drag your cursor (left click and drag) over the test body "Feedback forum" so that the text body is selected (not just the cursor within the text body).
Your still doing all of this OK up to this point. It is the next step where I think your making your mistake.
Now that the text body "Feedback forum" is selected (some call it "highlighted") you then click on the URL button option like you've been doing but MAKE SURE that the "http://" in the URL BOX is selected (highlighted) WHICH IT IS BE DEFAULT you place your cursor in the selected area "http://" by RIGHT CLICKING in that selected area "http://" to PASTE the already copied link: "http://forums.lakersground.net/posting.php?mode=quote&p=5490668" into the URL box (to replace the "http://" that was already there and selected (highlighted).
If the "http://" is selected like I described above you will not get the double "http://http://" like you did BUT INSTEAD THE WEB ADDRESS YOU'VE COPIED WILL REPLACE THE "http://" default that was selected (highlighted).
The problem is that IF the"http://" is NOT selected and instead your pasting the web address onto the back of the "http://" (concatenating) that is already in the URL box as a default (therefore creating two "http://" parts of your link) you'll have an incorrect web address link. In other words, if your coping the entire web address which includes the "http://" then you must replace the selected part in the URL box (http://") with the web address "http://forums.lakersground.net/posting.php?mode=quote&p=5490668" which already has the "http://" in the address.
Another way to do do this is to simply back space to remove (delete) the "http://" in the URL box and then paste the copied web address "http://forums.lakersground.net/posting.php?mode=quote&p=5490668" into the URL box and click OK.
Again, your getting THE TWO "http://"'s because your placing your cursor after the "http://" in the URL box.
So instead, what you want is this: Feedback forum which had replaced what was the default in the URL box with the entire web page address that had been copied.
I did this by simply right clicking in the already selected "highlighted" "http://" in the URL box in order to paste the copied address into the URL box.
Once again, you might find it easier to simply remove the "http://" in the URL box by deleting it (back spacing over it or clicking the DELETE key while it is selected and then pasting the copied web address "http://forums.lakersground.net/posting.php?mode=quote&p=5490668" (which already has the "http://" in the web address into the URL box and clicking OK.
Try this again and you'll see you will get the results I had above....
.... here it is again: Feedback forum
Quick Steps for above results:
1. Select "Feedback forum" (you did that OK)
2. Click URL and replace the "http://" that is already in the URL box with the copied address by pasting it into the URL box (right click/paste)
3. Click OK
You'll get what I've done above (twice).
Let me know if it works for you OK now.... ... I've tried to explain in detail the best way I know and also close with a quick 3 step explanation (above) because I've probably gone way overboard in my explanations .
jodeke, if you've still got problems or questions please free to ask... _________________ Rule = win titles

Yeah, it sounds like it's just a matter of clicking in the box and pasting vs. pasting over top of what's already there. When you click the URL button, the popup that comes up already has http:// in it (usually it's highlighted). If you are pasting a URL into the box, you need to make sure to get rid of the http:// that's there before pasting. Since it's highlighted when the popup opens, you should just be able to hit Ctrl+V (or Cmd+V if you're on a Mac) and it will overwrite what's there.
If you click first, you'll need to delete the http:// before pasting your URL.
To be honest, it probably isn't necessary to have the http:// in there anymore, so I might just get rid of it. But that will have to wait until tonight. _________________ Game recognize game, Granddad. - Riley Freeman, The Boondocks |

You've solved my problem. When I delete the http:// I can label the link what I want to between the url's Thanks _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Yep and deleting it is the same as selecting it since by selecting it your in essence replacing it when you past or type in the address, which is what I said... _________________ Rule = win titles
