Despite the rumors abound, Method Man is an artist still signed to a major label, according to the publicity department at Def Jam Records.
"Method man is still a part of the Def Jam family and he is currently on tour supporting his newest release, 4:21...The Day After," said publicist Jana Fleishman in a statement.
In the past, the rapper had some expressed discontent with the label, but had not requested to be dropped.
4:21...The Day After, while critically acclaimed by fans, gave the rapper his lowest debut with 62,000 units sold.
"I’ve seeing a lot of weird s**t going on up here since the transition. [Back in the ‘90s,] the procedure was way different. It was like I could just walk up in [chairman Lyor Cohen's] office and say, 'What's good?' So it’s not like that anymore," Meth said in a recent interview with AllHipHop.com.

His publicist sure has done a crappy job publicizing the album. I know I know its not her job but damn someone hasn't been doing theirs. I havn't even seen those cheesy posters that are usually put on every street post, sign and bus bench hyping the album.
By the way, O.T. :
Fishscale was a very pleasant album to listen to... the track with Biggie at the end blew my mind. |

^^^ and thats Mef's gripe. What happened to the street teams? What happened to the advertisment for every artist.
its like you have to be a spanking new artist that they paid a mil ticket to sign in order for them to invest more doe on the advertisment side of things. Its as if, the labels have to be in so deep with you the artist. to the point where if the record doesn't sell well. they will literally lose money or break even.
See they dont care about the old heads, even guys like Dmx who have sold millions or LL. why?
because they gave them their upfront change. By now those artist(if smart) have re-upped and renegotiated their contract to get more points per album. because of how well they sold the first few times around. what does this mean? Less doe for the label per album. And the lable also knows its very hard in this new climate of music fan, to sell an artist thats more then 3 records deep into the scene. So they just say, "oh well, I hope method man sells on his own". perhaps he could if everyone at least knew the album dropped. without the internet these guys sells would be 10 times worse. instead of better. because you wouldn't have a clue. no underground/mixtape websites for those that are not living in the same areas as these artist. we would be up a creek.
and to say the Labels think the internet downloading is why they're losing money. Please. you can't call it a lose when you aint trying to win to begin with. ya know
by the way, that Method man is a very Solid album. I'm going to go on a limb and say his best. yes better then the first 2. and thats because its Complete. well I'll take that back. maybe tied with the first one. because you have to grade it on a different Wu-Tang Style scale. This album is a nice blend of Wu, Grimey, new age hiphop(got your chick songs but with real lyrics and real concepts). |
