2nd round to undrafted.
Hope he turns out like Dana Barros. |
I used to be down on guys like him but now believe they have a place in the NBA. Too many sub 6' PG's that are effective NBA players. Will need to watch a game or 2 to get a better feel for him.
Hopefully better than Barros and closer to Mills or Vanvleet. |

I personally have him late 1st, but I have a lot of guys late 1st, more than the slots allotted, hence the idea of trading down.
My hipster picks would be Haliburton and Charles Matthews and roll with that. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

Coincidentally I just went to tankathon and ran the SIM and the Lakers jumped 11 spots to the Number 2 pick behind Chicago that got the number 1 pick With Atlanta Picking 3rd and Phoenix Picking 4th, the Knicks 5th and Cleveland 6th _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

I don't expect the shooting to translate immediately, so I tend to be down on scoring PGs that rely so much on screens/shooting.
It's different with Carsen Edwards, who is at least a drive threat, or Tre Jones as a playmaker/defender better than his shooting. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

Trade the pick, get assets, try to get AD again before FA without giving up much.
Otherwise, either trade down for a pick that gets Jaxson Hayes/DeAndre Hunter and a 2nd rounder.
If keeping the pick, it's a boatrace between RJ Barrett and Jarrett Culver for me, and that depends on workouts.
If there's a slim possibility of Culver being able to play 4... _________________ Resident Car Nut.

I exclusively watched Tre for one game and was not impressed. How do you rate him compared to his brother? My concern is his brother has not been able to see much playing time so far. |

Tyus is the slightly better shooter.
Tre is the better defender.
Both have tremendous hoop IQ. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

My issue is they both played on very good to great college teams and were not required to extend themselves to show any special type of skill. They are both average to good athletes but will have no advantage against NBA defenders.
For short PG's I prefer those who can shoot unless they bring something else special to the court like Lonzo (playmaking, rebounding, defense). |

I mean, in general I'm against back up PG types, but there's also the chance that he's the BPA.
FWIW, I think Tyus was incredibly underrated by Thibs and only now he's getting the PT under the new head coach.
For both guys, their special skills were floor generals/defense. It was never scoring based. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

I am not sure what type of pro he will be....but I can tell you I have watched this Duke team with him and without him....and it is night and day. He is critical to their overall success. |

I agree. Not questioning his contributions to Duke's success this year but how his game will translate to the NBA. I just thought Tyus who was so instrumental in Duke winning the NCAA would by this stage of his career be a starting PG. Maybe it was Thibs who held him back. I see a lot of Tyus in Tre so I am skeptical of him as a top prospect. |

RJ Barrett or Jarrett Culver. I think Barrett is the outside shot to be a franchise player more immediately, but he has decision-making issues. Culver is different, but at the NCAA level, he's doing what Brandon Ingram does with PnR and spot up shooting much better. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

a guy we will likely be talking about next year in this thread, 5 Star SG Anthony Edwards (#1 247, #2 Rivals, #5 ESPN) college c/o 2019 (likely 2020 NBA Draft) committed to the University of Georgia.

if we do a pre-draft trade, is it possible to keep AD off our books until the free agency starts so we can use up our cap space first? _________________ (bleep) Kawhi |

only if the trade is not finalized until you can take care of free agency work....which would require the other team to be game (not likely if New Orleans). Once the league office finalizes deal, AD is on the books and whatever traded is off. |

Depending on how other things go, the player selected with the 2019 first might need to have a signed contract so that he can be included as outgoing salary in a major trade. |

you really think we will be in the lottery? I personally think we will be drafting around #17 or #18. Looking over several mocks, it appears that is where some of the "good college big men, but unsure if they will do well in the NBA" type guys start coming off the board....guys like Daniel Gafford, PJ Washington, Brandon Clarke, and Jontay Porter to name a few. Not very exciting stuff in my opinion. |

If we lose to Atlanta I'd say that's about as close to "That's it" as it could get.
