I have to believe guys like Cook and Boogie along with KCP signed contracts to play, not sit on the bench. The guards are going to be all over the place, besides Rondo, the others will be shifting back and forth as "proper" PG's or SG's. I think KCP is a little better than the message board thinks he is due to a bad system/setup during Luke's tenure and he could flit back and forth at some SF as well. Danny Green will be flitting back and forth at SG/SF. Rondo/AD/Boogie will play together as that was part of the recruiting pitch to Boogie. Cook may eventually take the starters spot or... he may be a career backup, we'll see. Boogie is looking for another big contract after this, he's not coming off the bench. Kuz is going to get a lot of minutes somehow. Boogie and JaVale will probably miss 15-20 games each so that will open up rotations at C. Boogie and JaVale will also probably play a max of 25 minutes on any given night so there will be a lot of rotation at C.
Rondo/Cook/Caruso/(plays limited minutes - Troy Daniels)
KCP/mix in the above, some Danny Green/(never plays - Zach Norvell Jr.)
Lebron/Danny Green/(never plays - THT)
AD/Kuz/(rarely plays - Dudley)
Boogie/JaVale/(rarely plays - Jonathan Williams) |

Basically a thread for us to put our coaching hats on and make wild predictions. I made a thread like this last season also, it helps me control myself from spamming the free agency thread.
Depth Chart
Alex Caruso/ Rajon Rondo/ Quinn Cook
Danny Green/ KCP / Troy Daniels/ THT
Lebron James/ Jared Dudley
Anthony Davis/ Kyle Kuzma
Demarcus Cousins/ Javale McGee _________________ “Life is too short. You have to keep it moving.” - Kobe |

There's so many interesting routes that the coaching staff can assemble this roster, but a few questions stick out:
1. Do we start Boogie or Javale, Or do we start Davis at center next to Kuzma? The answer to this question I think will show what the coaching staff really emphasized. Boogie for overall offense, Kuzma for the best shooting lineup and McGee for defense/shot blocking.
2. Does Rondo get the start at PG simply because of his experience, do we give Caruso a shot or is Lebron at point actually a full time option? I'd rather have Rondo come off the bench, and use Lebron as a defacto point guard.
3. Are we actually going to use players like Quinn/Daniels/Dudley? Load management is important for Lebron, but how deep is our rotation really going to be? Is the coaching staff actually going to keep our rotation 10-11 deep throughout the regular season so if needed they can step up during the playoffs or are they just insurance? _________________ “Life is too short. I would run about 6 or 7 rotations something like this:
Updated with Avery Bradley.
Lineups
Code: | C PF SF SG PG Minutes
J McGee A Davis L James D Green A Bradley 12
D Cousins A Davis K Kuzma D Green A Caruso 6
A Davis K Kuzma L James T Daniels A Bradley 6
J McGee K Kuzma J Dudley KCP A Bradley 6
D Cousins K Kuzma L James D Green A Caruso 6
J McGee K Kuzma L James D Green Q Cook 6
D Cousins A Davis J Dudley A Caruso R Rondo 6
|
Minutes by position
Code: | C PF SF SG PG Total
L James 0 0 30 0 0 30
A Davis 6 24 0 0 0 30
D Green 0 0 0 30 0 30
KCP 0 0 0 6 0 6
J McGee 24 0 0 0 0 24
D Cousin 18 0 0 0 0 18
Q Cook 0 0 0 0 6 6
A Caruso 0 0 0 6 12 18
R Rondo 0 0 0 0 6 6
K Kuzma 0 24 6 0 0 30
J Dudley 0 0 12 0 0 12
T Daniels 0 0 0 6 0 6
A Bradley 0 0 0 0 24 24 |
Rondo/KCP/Cook/Daniels are the bottom of the rotation but should see some more minutes for inevitable injuries/rest days/load management

I hope/suspect? the Toronto model will be used by a lot of teams. The Lakers with a 35 year old Lebron and Anthony Davis with his history would benefit by using the "load management" theory, maybe taking 5-10 games off during the season. Then you hit the playoffs and you've got 11 or even 12 guys that have gotten minutes during the season and can be depended on to play.
There's no way in hell Boogie and JaVale both play 82 games so as far as who "starts" really may be moot though Boogie will (I assume) get the nod most of the time unless the other team is playing a 6'4" long distance sprinter at the C slot. The guard slots will, like other people have said, probably be supplemental to Lebron as PG, so you could just play 2 shooters there or have KCP in for defense and a shooter next to him. I guess we'll see how creative Vogel is with his new offense. |

Rondo should be playing no more than 15 minutes a game and should almost never be on the floor as the same time as Lebron. |
This--except that 15 minutes per game for Rondo is 14.75 minutes too high. Rondo was horrible last year. _________________ “When the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the loser.”

If Cook and Kuzma can play average defense and Kuzma can shoot 3 at respectable rare, then Cook, Green, LeBron, Kuz and AD will be the closing our version of death lineup. 3 plus defenders, speed, shot creation, all there. Or replace Cook with Iggy for a better defense.
Kuzma is really the wild card for Lalers. If he can become a two way player with improvement in rebounding, Lakers will go far. |

12 man rotation seems unlikely to me.
Either Cook or Daniels is lilely out of the rotation to start.
Dudley also would seem a longshot to be in the regular rotation to start, though personally I would rather have him play all of KCP's gifted minutes. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

I can't see Rondo not starting early on because he has played with AD. and Kidd and the coaches will fawn over his "intangibles."
Caruso and Cook fight for those 2nd team backup minutes. Both will end up playing a lot during season b/c Rondo won't stay healthy.
I see a lot of KCP time because someone has to guard
Lilliard, Curry etc. Caruso was respectable defensively, so that can earn him more court time.
If Kuz can regain his shot and defend adequately - which he did a lot last year despite the criticism on this board - I can see his minutes in the mid 30s. |

McGee
Davis
James
Green
Rondo
Cousins
Kuzma
Dudley / THT
KCP / Daniels
Caruso / Cook
Doing some research, Pope and Rondo should never share the backcourt at the same time. Worst 2-man combo we had last year.
Id rather have Caruso in the starting 5 as Rondo has a huge assist:turnover ratio, but he’ll probably get the nod cause of experience.
Kuzma, James and Green are gonna be solid when on the court together.
Cant wait to see how Vogel mixes and match's lineups. |

KCP - Injury reserve starter if Green gets hurt.
Daniels - Injury reserve for Cook.
McGee - Will get more PT if AD or Cousins get hurt. If either do, he gets more minutes.
AD's 6 minutes at C for a death lineup with some speed and shooting. Likely Davis, Kuzma, James, Cook and Caruso. Lots of speed there. Nice way to close out many games, IMO. |
Thumbs up.
I probably would switch McGee for Cousins as he's a better pick and roll target, but that's quibbling. To end games or halves I hope we use no center at all to get Kuzma on the floor.. |
Thumbs up? That bench unit is awful. Rondo and Cook should never play together.. absolutely zero defense. Idk what you guys are talking about. |
