Gram Parsons and the Flying Burrito Brothers Wild Horses - though there is some conjecture on who is covering who. As some believe it was Parsons that wrote the song and they did release it first. But anyway.
Also this thread would not be complete without the Gourds cover of Gin And Juice.
A good version of a great song from a f'ing-great band.
Love Roxy and Brian Ferry, but that chicks screeching vocals just don't do it for me,
I kept hoping for Chuck Barris to pop out with a GONG...! _________________ “Always remember... Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.”

Or the cover:
I love No Doubt's version. It's one of those covers that truly takes on it's own identity, but the 80's guy in me has to go with the original. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Here is a much better cover of More Than This:
Well . . . we agree on Roxy and Brian (and Phil and Andy) . . . . ^^That^^ sounded like Karaoke
Because that's exactly what it is. It's not bad Karaoke, but it's definitely not a cover. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Wow DMR. I am so glad you created this thread because I learn things I didn't know before like the fact that John Prine wrote Angel From Montgomery.
I did not know that, despite being a huge fan of this song ever since hearing the Tedeschi Trucks Band do it at a show I was at. Once they rolled into Sugaree, this old deadhead was hooked.
I love Bonnie Riatt's version, but here is a Tedeschi Trucks version (into Sugaree of course, lol)

Radiohead covering The Smiths - "The Headmaster Ritual" from the same webcast:
This one isn't a cover, but it's an amusing clip of Johnny Marr of The Smiths telling the story of how he briefly joined The Pretenders after The Smiths broke up and getting to "cover" James Honeyman-Scott's classic solo from The Pretenders "Kid"

I'm glad that you now know the actual source of such a great song. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

The late Chris Cornell covering John Lennon's "Imagine" on the Howard Stern show.
Really enjoyed that
Chris Cornell had such a unique, great voice. And John Lennon might have known how to come up with a decent song or two. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny

Agreed. My oldest daughter was a big Do Doubt fan. When I played the fabulous Talk Talk version, she said something like . . .EEW!
Totally understandable if ND's was the first version she'd become familiar with. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

He did, I loved Temple of the Dog, his voice meshing with Vedder’s. And Lennon was the reason I loved music. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.
