Schroder
KCP or Wes
Lebron
AD
Marc
I personally hope and prefer the following though since I feel Wes is the perfect veteran bench guy ala Green to start the game on the oppositions best player..
KCP
Wes
Lebron
AD
Marc
I think Frank will go with a ton of changeups throughout the season though and who knows who will be playing best/healthy etc. once the Playoffs roll around after the insanity which will be the regular season. There's a ton of options I can see working very well with the only absolutes being the obvious Bron and AD. |

Who are Lakers' the starting five?
In this season coming up, that question may have no meaning. Yesterday, Vogel in his postgame interview (link) stated that for the season coming up it will be "abnormal to be at full strength." The question and answer begin around the 3 minute mark. Apparently, Cacok and Kostas had a covid test come back inconclusive so they were not allowed to play yesterday. After the interview was over, Derek Fisher pointed out (5:40 mark) that there are always going to be a few tests that come back inconclusive even when people don't have the disease. In these cases, players are not going to be allowed to play.
Also, at the 2:30 mark, Vogel says players like THT are going to carry the load for teammates who had a short off-season. This implies some sort of plan for load managing the players.
In the playoffs, we also saw Vogel juggle the starting five depending on which team the Lakers were playing. With this season's team, I expect to see more of that type of situational starting fives. Of course, LBJ and AD--and perhaps Gasol--will always be included but the others may be opponent dependent. For example, game 6 against Miami the starting five were AD, LBJ, KCP, AC and DG--a different starting five than we saw throughout the season.
So, the starting five are going to be jumbled quite a bit. |

Ideadly I would want Schroder, KCP, Lebron, Davis and Marc but....
We either use Trez in the Odom role in which we split PF-C duties between Davis, Marc and Trez (Pau, Bynum, Odom). But I do not want to see him playing Center next to Morris or Kuzma. He is just not tall enough to guard the paint and people are not afraid of him.
However Vogel will be forced to play Morris because he is a good player so why not do this.
PG.Schroder / THT / Caruso
SG.KCP / Matthews
SF.LeBron / Kuzma
PF.Davis / Morris
C.Trez / Gasol
1) Davis + Lebron mitigate Trez lack of height
2) Schroder and Trez Pick and Roll
3) Gasol can playmake and keep the bench going. THT can play P&P w gasol
I really dont care who starts..this team is so deep that it does not even matter to be honest. It is just putting everyone in a position to play well. _________________ D'Angelo finals M.V.P |

Which night? Starting 5 could be ever changing depending on match ups and availability.
Only issue is player egos if they do not get the "role" they expected.
Coaches have a hell of a sales pitch to give this season to have the players accept roles. There are arguments for a couple expected starters to be on the bench. Specifically, Schroder and Mathews. They could make the bench so explosive every night.
James is going to handle the ball with the starters, it is his nature. Starting KCP, Caruso or potentially THT or Kuzma with him and Davis in the starting lineup has some interesting potential.
Could also include Gasol if Davis would accept a tandem of he and Harrell to start games.
Amazing how many impactful combos could be used not just for starting 5 but for the bench as players come in throughout a game. Really good problem to have as long as the players accept the situation. |

Most likely, with many variations on an 11 man rotation nucleus depending on matchup, health, or whatever Vogel feels is best from one night to the next.
I can see Cook, McKinney, Dudley at the end of the bench.
Anyone else on this squad could start on any given night, depending on circumstances. |

Looks like AD and LeBron can easily come of the bench. They don't need to start. We should actually do this just to mess up the opposing coaching staff... |

I think Bron's going to go for the first 5 minutes of each quarter. Starters benefit from the before-game (1st/3rd) warm-up.
Vogel can figure out the 3-5 rotation w/ AD for the 1st half of the season and get enough rep w/ Shroder and Bron, get their rhythm before playoffs. |

Very nice! This would be so unexpected! It would be fun to see the "Laker starters" play the opposing team's starters to a standstill and then watch LBJ and AD come to to demolish their bench. |

Assumptions:
-AD + LBJ are starting
-AD doesn't like playing the 5, so for a majority of regular season will see either Trez or Gasol or even Markieff who started a few games last year.
I think Trez could start so we can mask his defensive woes next to AD. Lebron usually starts 2nd quarters so we could still benefit from the LBJ/Gasol passing potential.
-Schroeder has demanded to start, which if you're Vogel you consider so not to create locker room issues. KCP has proven that he doesn't have a problem coming off the bench even though he probably should start.
-Wes Matthews will probably start against teams with premier wings (clippers, rockets) |

What it should be:
Alex Caruso
KCP
Lebron James
Anthony Davis
Marc Gasol
What itβs probably going to be:
Dennis Schroder
KCP
Lebron James
Anthony Davis
Marc Gasol
What I selfishly want it to be by the end of the season:
Talen-Horton Tucker/Dennis Schroder
KCP/Alex Caruso
Lebron James/Wes Matthews
Anthony Davis/Kyle Kuzma/Markieff Morris
Marc Gasol/Montrez Harrell/Markieff Morris _________________ Lakers Offseason Goal:
- Draft Zach Edey (or Kel'el Ware)
- Sign Jonas Valanciunas or Nicolas Claxton
- sign and trade DLO to not lose value
- sign a coach thatβs not an idiot
Call it an offseason |

KCP's still the most dangerous guy on the team navigating screens and he's more active off-ball with a quicker release than SchrΓΆder. There's no real wrong way to go with a roster this well constructed, but forcing teams to chase Matthews and KCP around the Gasol-AD-Lebron triumvirate is going to be hell before DS and Trezz sub in and give defenses a different nasty look. _________________ Under New Management |

Lot of flexibility, I think the standard lineup is:
Gasol (probably McGee type minutes mostly)
AD
Lebron
Schroder
KCP
With the other top 6 players likely Harrel, Morris, Matthews, Kuzma, AC, THT getting 15-20 minutes a night. _________________ LAKERS 2019-2020: NBA World Champions! |

We definitely need to keep the minutes down and deploy him as a spot defender and at the beginning of each half. |

Haha. Coaches' minds would explode.
But on a serious note, I don't think fans should take too much from preseason. The Clippers weren't playing hard and we'll need LeBron and AD to be LeBron and AD for us. _________________ ππ π π π #18!!! |
