Exactly, who in the hell is comparing Monk to Poole? Lol....try, not even close.
Poole is a much much better player than Monk. No question.
I hope the Lakers can keep him but not holding my breath. |
Is Poole a lockdown defender?
Because while you can say Poole is better than Monk... I don't think you can say he's much better than Monk... they are shooting at the exact same rate and I'm not sure Poole has Monk's athleticism.
Monk's assist turnover ratio is slightly better, rebounds a little better...
Where is this drastic difference that you guys see?
For 6 million, Monk is a steal and we should thank our lucky stars he's willing to stay for that price, if he actually does.

I appreciate Monk but damn Jordan Poole? The main advantage he gives us over Monk is defensive versatility. Monk can guard 1's exclusively, Poole can guard some 1's, 2's & 3's.
Can you say that about Monk given how similiar their numbers are? |

He's also their primary ball handler when Steph is out. That's a huge difference. _________________ KOBE |

The Warriors had the second best defense in the league... if you put Monk on the Warriors and Poole on the Lakers you are likely to see those numbers somewhat inverted.
Again, I'm not even saying Monk is better than Poole.
I'm saying Monk is a huge steal for 6 million.
I can't believe I'm arguing with people who think Stanley Johnson will learn to shoot after 7 years. |

Nunn - Monk - THT - Reaves - Christie
Lotta guard but he’s BPA for taxMLE I think, just secure him then go get the big wings and bigs
Unless y’all think Oladipo is a better get
Wouldn’t mind bringing back T.Bryant with the tMLE either
Quote: | Early indications are Tyler Herro’s extension with Miami will settle around $25 million in average annual value. Victor Oladipo is not expected to return to the Heat and is said to have interest from Washington, Denver and Detroit, in the salary range of the taxpayer MLE. – via Jake Fischer @ Bleacher Report |

He was one of our bright spots last year. Will be sad to see him go but it's understandable as the Lakers simply have too many other gaping holes. Wish we could keep him but big wing/stretch center is important too. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

If our summer league roster is any indication, there is still a good chance Lakers resign him as the organization continues to be allergic to athletic wings/Centers. _________________ Darvin Scam: https://media.tenor.com/images/3c15249955860a4b16b59e8ae035fb75/tenor.gif |

The key to signing people like Monk was to hope they had exactly the kind of year he did and then re-signing them. That's the entire point. To not re-sign him defeats the whole purpose of why we signed him initially in the first place. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

The key with Monk here is if he makes the crazy (but Clips do this all the time) move to stay on the Lakers with a slight non-bird rights raise, and then the Lakers have his Early Bird rights in 2023. But that would be such a gamble for Monk that is unreasonable. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Same people disrespecting Monk are probably the same ones who said Brandon Ingram would never average 20 points a game.
Oh well, if the Spectrum report is true... we weren't getting him anyway.
I like the idea of Mo Bamba also, but Nunn better be healthy or this will not be a net gain offensively. |

I would trust Ballmer to make good on a wink-wink deal. Not sure I would feel as confident in Jeanie/Pelinka, unless maybe I was Klutch (and is that even still true). _________________ Austin Reaves keeps his game tight, like Kobe Bryant on game night. |

It's incredible that a lot of regulars argued like hell to defend the offer to pay Dennis 84 million but think Monk is a liability at 6 million.
(I'm not saying this just to you because it was many people here) but it's just frustrating that they don't appreciate Monk's talent.
If we were offering Dennis money to Monk... then sure, I can see some reason for debate... but at 6 million?
Just really super frustrating.
And I like the Mo Bamba idea... but Malik really showed me something and I'm going to be pissed if he goes up another level somewhere else next year. |

Really? Monk is absolutely worth $6 million.
However that's not even the interesting question, the only relevant/interesting question is given that we only have 1 tpmle are there any *other* players worth spending it on? E.g. if both Mo Bamba and Monk are interested do you pick Bamba or Monk?
P.S. I really doubt Bamba would be available - many other teams can/will offer the tpmle, some may offer more. |

If Nunn is completely healthy... I can understand that choice.
But I really think Malik showed a higher level... so it wouldn't be an easy call for me. It all depends on whether you think Malik has hit his ceiling or not... but he is scoring with elite efficiency... over 60% TS which is getting close to Steph like numbers. If the article was BS that Malik wanted to stay for less... then it makes sense to go for Mo.
But if Malik really did want to stay like Alex did... then I think we might regret that choice.
But I do see the benefits of Mo because he is a unicorn in terms of his length. |

I agree it's not an easy choice. It really boils down to whether one prioritizes defense vs offense and whether Monk can/will get starter minutes. (Bamba definitely will get starter minutes). |

I think you are conflating a few issues here.
Dennis would have been an overpay (and even I said that). But we would have not traded for Russ, and possibly kept KCP/Kuz/1st and Caruso.
Monk's value has no relation to Dennis, as Dennis was coming off a 6MOY 2nd place finish the year prior, and was established. Monk on this team, would be a luxury to have but we would be using our only free agent tool (MMLE) to do so, and we'd have a glut of guards IMO unless we offloaded Russ. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Schroeder $84m ain’t got Westbrook’s $47.1m on the team, what are we comparing here, the $6m is the only weapon we got left for FAs |

I'm not conflating anything.
Some of the people who managed to contort logic into every conceivable direction to justify signing Dennis for 84 million... are also saying that... Monk is too small so he's not worth signing for 6 million.
I said we'd have a hard time moving Dennis at 84 million... considering Houston just let him go... my theory seems to have been true.
I said that we'd be lucky to sign Monk for 6 million... even if we found out his fit wasn't perfect... we'd have a valuable asset to use to perhaps get a wing for the playoffs.
It's all about value... and Monk is one of the best values.
IF Nunn is 100% and you can get Mo Bamba for 6... then I understand that move... but if Nunn isn't... it is a huge loss to lose Malik. |
