“I miss KB. He would understand and explain everything that I’m not allowed to. Honestly he was the greatest Laker ever. He understood team over self. Meaning your rewards would come if you valued team goals over your own then everything would fall into place. All can reply.”
Do you take this as just an opportunity for Jeannie to commend Kobe for not putting himself before the team...or is this a not-so-veiled jab at Lebron and Team Klutch for forcing her to do all these trades and signings that have backfired? |

Wouldn't that fit more towards Russ? if you were trying to find shade.
Or maybe she just misses Kobe. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

There was a half-hearted discussion in the general free agent thread yesterday when this tweet appeared.
The consensus seem to be: Jeanie was unprofessional for posting the tweet, even if it was too cryptic to understand what she was trying to say, and no one seem to care all that much about it. |

Why would that tweet automatically be about LeBron / Klutch? It could just as easily be about Russ being obstinate not wanting to take direction last season, etc. Who knows since she was not specific and she was just vent-tweeting lol |

Everyone universally agrees Russ needs to be gone.
No need to be vague if you are talking about Russ. |

Kobe is just the best. Period.
most probably, Jeannie is fed up with the stans surrounding the Lakers, who are not really looking after the best interest of the team... they are just stans for Lebron. _________________ "Now, if life is coffee, then the jobs, money & position in society are the cups. If she is fed up she might want to look in the mirror and do some self-reflection. |

It can be read many ways, but it's definitely true that Klutch has been pushing for a WB trade since deadline, and the Lakers FO is not agreeing at the costs. They even dumped the coach that won a ring with our top 2 stars, just to gain some respect with WB.
I mean the difference is that Kobe had his moments (2007) and we wasted his prime years with crap cast (Only Odom was a starting level player on some of Kobe's prime years) but Kobe always gave 100%. 81 points, etc. etc.
We alll know how rare Kobe is, and that is why he is the greatest Laker.
Could it be Jeanie sees that Lebron coasts and gives up on the season as soon as he sees he can't win a title? He did it twice as a Laker in my eyes. The first season and fourth. He doesn't fight, not carry his team on his back. But this is also why Lebron's career far extended Kobe's in terms of a "prime level". By being Kobe, Kobe eventually broke his body down and was just a show the last 2 years. He wasn't really giving you star impact. Lebron by mantaining himself - that includes evaluating when to go all out and when not to - has been able to extend his prime level. It works for him personally, but it doesn't always work for his teams. Especially when he walks in FA. |

What is interesting about the James/ Kobe discussions is that the very things that made each so great is also their biggest criticism.
Kobe’s fanatical work ethic and desire to compete at full speed made us all fans but was also the reason he was so broken down and hobbled by the end of his career. His incredible confidence allowed him to make amazing plays but also head shaking “forcing of shots”. It was his court and he dominated it. He rarely managed it. He just competed, at times recklessly.
James on the other hand is in the discussion as GOAT because of his calculated career on and off the court. Truly amazing athlete that has maintained a high level for a long career of deep runs and usage. But every move is calculated and managed to best benefit him.
James switches teams to create the best opportunities for him. Through social media and back channels he typically controls the moves for his teammates and overall narrative. When that team had nothing left he moves to the next opportunity.
On the court he is just as calculated, especially in recent years. He manages his efforts, his time on the court, the moments he attacks, gives up the ball or settles for deep 3’s.
Two entirely different approaches for two legendary players. Many of us are biased towards Kobe because we watched him develop and win on our Lakers. We respect and miss the passion he played with. I’m sure Jeanie is no different.
Watching this past season was difficult. Seeing the lack of effort and the Laker brand ridiculed just about every game was nauseating. All this continued drama and being stuck in a really bad situation has to be wearing on the FO.
Paying the luxury tax and making dramatic moves for such a bad team not making the playoffs? Forced into this desperate Westbrook situation? Being criticized for not making another bad for the franchise trade to follow the last bad trade to make James happy?
I’m not happy with it as a fan. I understand why the owner of a family business with a lifetime invested in the Lakers could send out a late night frustration tweet about her team. And honestly, I don’t care who it was directed at. It is simply a (bleep) situation! |

I personally thought it was directed at Klutch and LBJ, maybe a fun night of drinking and you let something slip, but it's so vague - who knows. |

Kinda says a lot about Jeanie as an owner.
She takes over, and it's 6 consecutive years without making the playoffs, a Lakers first. Top FA after top FA reject the Lakers, and the YUTES are ok, but other than BI, none appear to be an all NBA level fixture for the future.
Then LBJ/Klutch come, without another star in hand, and join the Lakers. Next season they win the championship. They basically saved her butt by winning the championship, and I'm sure she's walking around in her circles still reveling at the 2020 ring.
Now, after permitting Rob to jettison first rounders like they were made of candy, she wants to draw the line in the sand. Ok.
No doubt she wants to piggy back off of LBJ's record breaking season to be to garner national attention, and make sure he does it as a Laker. She will likely revel and brag about this in the upcoming years too. Now, you want to bite the hand that literally saved her in 2020 with the ring, and now with KAJ scoring title season? Bad look. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

With all due respect that describes a massive portion of Kobe's fanbase, or any all time great for that matter. |

Kobe didn’t have the entourage that Lebron has/had. And I don’t mean that in a derogatory way towards Lebron.. he’s made a bunch of people from his childhood/early adulthood very rich and that should be commended.
Kobe didn’t really have all of that.. except maybe Pelinka? Which is interesting. |

If Jeanie Buss cared so much about team over self, then she should have paid Alex Caruso.
I have multiple problems with her tweet. First, using Kobe’s memory to make a point is weak. Second, if it is a subtweet against her own players (say Westbrook or LeBron), that’s just immature and unlikely to lead to anything positive. Third, if this is in reaction to having to potentially take on luxury taxes, I have no sympathy for her. She owns one of the most storied franchises in sports. And the Lakers in-state opponents (Clippers, Warriors) to say nothing of their historical rival (Celtics) are willing to go deep into the tax. It’s a sad day where the vaunted Lakers are operating like a salary-conscious small market team. Fourth, she’s certainly entitled to her opinion, but her tweet could be read as a shot at Magic Johnson who has three times the regular season mvps as Kobe and one more finals mvp than Kobe. Finally, there’s the timing of this in the midst of ongoing trade negotiations and free agent pitches. How is any sign of potential internal turmoil in the Lakers organization helpful to those efforts? |

Kobe Kobe Kobe, who da F cares. I mean RIP Kobe but keep bringing up his name does no good for the future of this team. Here is Jeannie Buss being nostalgic again, reminiscing the old Kobe days. Wake up Jeannie it’s a new era now. Don’t keep using Kobe’s name to draw attention away from your inability to run the team.

Other than encouragement or positive words for the team/player, owner should stay away from tweeting about their own player |

I just think it's a distinction without a difference. What percentage of MJ's fanbase didn't care about the long term implications of trades/moves aimed at maximizing his Title window? Same for Kobe, Lebron, etc? |

This.
She was obviously being nostalgic about Kobe over the holiday weekend. What Laker fans don't think about him from time to time?
We can possibly infer she was directing her tweet toward Klutch but she never directly mentioned them. |

It’s different. Fans seem more transient because the players are. You see in every arena fans have laker gear on mostly with 8 and 24. They are still repping the team. _________________ Kobe.

And herein is the difference.
I am Lakers fan first over anything. I openly cheered against LBJ every year he was in the Finals. But once he donned purple and gold, he's on my favorite team, so of course I'll root for him.
Some folks here are Kobe fans over Lakers fans. That's their right and I respect that. But to say that all Lakers fans must choose Kobe over LBJ, that sounds insane to me. Kobe's last tweet on this earth was to LBJ, and he said that Lakers fans should embrace LBJ.
Are you respecting Kobe's wishes? _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |
