Scouting department lost Ryan West, who now works for the Pistons. I still have faith in their drafting, but it does feel like all of our past picks and undrafted acquisitions were magic (Zu, Nance, Hart, Kuz, Clarkson, Caruso etc). They'll pretty much have to work overtime to compensate for the failures of the executive team. |

I'm liking the moves with Reaves, Johnson, Gabriel. Like Yinoma mentioned, we could add Nunn and THT to that rotation, I'd be happy to see it. |

Either the NBA scouting is bad or the FO is ignoring their suggestions. The experience of the scouting department roughly parallels adding Pelinka as GM. Are these scouts beholden to Rob for their jobs? International scouting is the only faction to span the seasons where we were finding good talent and currently where we seem to just be scouting old farts. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Heard one of these talking head shows make the point that LA’s scouting department has found some gems and that they should be more utilized too. I’m sure Reaves’ outburst last night only adds fuel to that fire.

Ventura, to your point, given the fact that the FO has continued to bring in Klutch targets, Pelinka targets, or players with brand recognition (including at times “former Laker” brand), I’d venture it’s the not listening variety of disconnect. Don’t expect those criteria matter to the scouting department. _________________ Los Angeles Lakers Leadership: Jeanie Buss, Robert Pelinka, Kurt Rambis, LeBron James, Rich Paul. |

Last year (2021 Draft), The Clippers scouted BJ Boston (Klutch client) and drafted him with a pick (#51) they got from New Orleans for Cash and a top 54 protected 2022 2nd round pick. So basically they bought the pick.
This is the type of move the Lakers need to make this year given they have no picks. Time to open up the wallet and be smart about it. _________________ Los Angeles Lakers Leadership: Jeanie Buss, Robert Pelinka, Kurt Rambis, LeBron James, Rich Paul. |

Ryan West is overrated by this board. |

There are teams out there that would gladly give up a late second for cash. I know cash amounts are limited by the CBA but if the FO doesn’t spend to that limit every season they are being cheap. FYI, Boston is going to be good, he played a lot early and was inconsistent like any rookie but his high points were high.
Watching Utah-Dallas and JC is having a good game. Another win by our former scouts that the current FO pissed away for nothing. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Bump for start of 2022-23 season.
All of the scouting dept prospects from last year are gone save Austin, Huff and Gabriel. We bought pick #35 this year and drafted Christie, a prototypical wing who is 19 and needs to work on his shot and strength.
Training camp players on non-guaranteed deals include Ryan, Bacon, Huff, Gabriel and McCoy. Swider and Pippen are signed to two-way deals. From that group we can retain up to two regular rostered players, and two two-ways.
Let the games begin! _________________ Los Angeles Lakers Leadership: Jeanie Buss, Robert Pelinka, Kurt Rambis, LeBron James, Rich Paul. |

Why Pippen and not huff for the 2 way? I don’t get this one, we have so many guards and Huff-Jones could be that vet min Center rotation for the next couple years |

I'm not bothered either way, other than I think SPJ really earned it. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

More importantly, Dwayne Bacon is at least a camp contract signing. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

Cole is an interesting prospect. Question is can he make the read on a close out. His in between game looked good in summer league and that shot is typically open. But he can’t live there. If he draws help on the drive he has to find the open man. Also interested in if he is a good pick and pop option. He’s on a rare 2 year two way and I’m sure the Lakers wouldn’t mind getting through the year with him on that deal.
Noticed Hamm didn’t mention Huff in a recent interview when talking about the battle for the last roster spot. _________________ Los Angeles Lakers Leadership: Jeanie Buss, Robert Pelinka, Kurt Rambis, LeBron James, Rich Paul. |

He's not going to make the read on a close out. He's just going to shoot it. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

So far during preseason, I’ve seen him attack the close out by waiting for the flyby and pulling in for the midrange. So yeah, seems you’re totally right
Lakers waived Bacon and McCoy today. Signed Figueroa and Harrison. All four seem like South Bay plays, which of course could lead to farm system call ups given the right situations. _________________ Los Angeles Lakers Leadership: Jeanie Buss, Robert Pelinka, Kurt Rambis, LeBron James, Rich Paul. |

Scouting seems to be a strength of the FO, good diamonds in the rough continually found…Gabriel initially looking like a positive find.
Could Gabriel end up as a starter? Ala AC Green/Rambis? Presumptive at this point but:
AD………..Jones
Gabriel….(AD/LBJ)
LBJ………..Walker
Nunn………PBev
Russ……….Shroeder
In order of potential breakthroughs:
1Reeves
2Bryant
3JTA
4TBjr
5Swider
6SPjr
7Huff
8Christie |

Agreed. Gabriel has looked pretty good so far. He's one of those guys who is in a pretty good spot on this roster b/c they lack players his size/role. If he could hit near league average for PF from distance, that would go a long way in earning him real minutes. _________________ Los Angeles Lakers Leadership: Jeanie Buss, Robert Pelinka, Kurt Rambis, LeBron James, Rich Paul. |

Matt Ryan making his case as a scouting dept find, hitting six threes against the Warriors tonight
Swider trying to make him look good by missing everything
Christie taking tough defensive assignments. _________________ Los Angeles Lakers Leadership: Jeanie Buss, Robert Pelinka, Kurt Rambis, LeBron James, Rich Paul. |

Swider had a bad night, not a big deal, Matt also looks like a keeper. Question is; what to do with those off-season signings ? _________________ Lakers need to build a freaking team ! |

Would it be premature to say that I like this roster better than the last two seasons?
In time, barring injuries, we have a nice mix of shooting, athleticism, more guard play, more active centers... |

No. Much more likeable roster top to bottom, unless you feel a certain way about Westbrook playing. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

Much better just by looking at athleticism and youth.
Get rid of Westbrook and you have a very good team |

wow John Butler became available - 7'1, age 19, was great summer ball, what's not to like?
Just needs to do some work outs with Lebron to get on some muscle on his frame |

It'll take him years to get to NBA physicality. Still worth the look. _________________ Resident Car Nut.
