Sure. Rob gets credit/blame for the totality of the FO moves under his watch.
It's a little early to go ga-ga over either guy. But at the moment, they each look like solid signings. |

Too bad in his good signings like Walker and Reaves, he gave Walker a 1 year without an option, so no bird rights.
Reaves only got a 2 year old deal when he should have been given 3 like any other competent GM would do with their 2nd round or undrafted picks.
Even in his best deals, he manages to (bleep) those up. _________________ Darvin Scam: https://media.tenor.com/images/3c15249955860a4b16b59e8ae035fb75/tenor.gif |

LeGM and Rob both deserve credit and the blame.
I’ll give them credit for Monk and Walker IV.
Reaves? That’s all the Lakers scouting which has always been a consistent operation.
LeGM/Rob are just your average to below average GM - picking recognizable names and reactive strategy where they lose track of cap numbers and roster construction.
The only difference? They get lucky with Klutch funneling money to clients looking for a big payday, but for every Walker IV or Monk…there is a Nunn. |

People might be a little too excited about back to back wins against the G League Ignite. _________________ 14-5-3-12 |

Chill, we just beat the Spurs a few times 😂
He deserves some credit, but let’s see how he rounds out this team first. Right now we are horribly incomplete. _________________ “You have to dance beautifully in the box that you are comfortable dancing in.” - Kobe Bryant |

Pelinka Should have made a trade before camp…sure Rob has done some good things, and if by “credit” you mean acknowledging that then yea…but credit is only given if the negatives aren’t soooo bad that the positives are completely overshadowed. Rob’s negatives completely overshadow the positives.
Analogy…if you have a vehicle capable of traveling 300 miles on a full tank of gas but run out of fuel and get stranded after 200 miles because you didn’t fill up the tank then you don’t get credit for traveling 200 miles before getting stranded, even though it’s a positive that you traveled some distance before running out of gas…that’s the best way to communicate my stance. AD/LBJ are the vehicle capable or going 300 miles but the team has a losing record because Rob didn’t fill up the tank…sure he had a limited amount of cash but he could have used his fuel card but didn’t want to go into debt…so we’re running out of gas.
If the Lakers had two 3 games losing streaks in the first 18 games instead of two 5 game losing streaks then their record could be 11-7 instead of 7-11, that would be the 3rd seed in the West and just 1.5 games out of first…again that would have been with two 3 game losing streaks. A trade before camp would have most likely made that probable…so no credit for Rob…any positives are in spite of Rob not because of him. _________________ “When it looks as if it is a realistic possibility, I want to focus on winning a ship like it’s a goal that can’t be denied. How pissed would people be if Pelinka traded for Myles and we signed him long-term and he reverted back to Myles of past few seasons?
I know I would be pissed giving up 2 FRPs and seeing him and Day to Davis on the bench in street clothes with guys at the 4/5 that shouldn’t be in the league.
And what would sting more is that no one else offered up an FRP for Turner. |

I would be disappointed but not pissed…there is a difference. I would be pissed if Rob did nothing when it looks like AD/LBJ might still have enough in the tank such that a move could be made to compete.
It’s all speculation, anything could go wrong…or right…not trying at all would be what I’d be pissed about. I wouldn’t be pissed at trying and failing but I’d be pissed at not trying at all.
Besides…by Myles reverting to past seasons it would be the best shot blocker in the league. That sample size has been long enough (3years in a row?) to reasonably expect that to continue. The offensive explosion and rebounding this season is nice but it isn’t the main attraction anyway. The way Myles is looking currently we would cut Rob some slack if it didn’t work because it looks like it should to almost everyone except some Laker fans and perhaps Rob.
I get being cautious, but a trade is not a panic move it’s been in the works and the need recognized for months, before training camp. Rob and some fans seem paralyzed by the fear of trying and failing such that many prefer not to try at all…even though it seems logical that currently the team has the best chance of competing than they will have for the next several years. _________________ “When it looks as if it is a realistic possibility, I want to focus on winning a ship like it’s a goal that can’t be denied. Sure, give Pelinka all the credits now so that once we get stomped by teams with winning records the we could blame it all on the headcoach. |

To be fair, Reaves was expected to go high, in the second round. Word was, Detroit was interested in drafting him. But, the Lakers talked to Austin, and both wanted him to land in LA. So, the Lakers promised to sign him, if he didn't enter into the draft. The rest is history. _________________ ZOOM!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I'm trying to be fair, and I certainly don't want to minimize Pelinka's work, but from the moment we went away from what worked (stay big along side AD Howard, McGee) to letting players walk for nothing (Randle, Caruso), to signing guys to one year deals only to lose them (Monk) to trading frps with disregard to preserving something to the Westbrook trade to the.....next?
I may not be fair in terms of understanding the intimate details of all of those transactions, but we didn't get here by happenstance. I'm trying to be fair. |

Even in his best deals, he manages to (bleep) those up. |
But we don't know if Walker was betting on his potential. Its all speculation. |

What confuses me is that he had already dropped the ball with THT. He gave THT a 2 year deal. Which meant Lakers had to pay him around 10M per year to keep him after 2 years. Which then led to the Lakers not paying Alex Caruso as a free agent.
Austin Reeves is probably going to get the same deal this summer. Around the 3 year 32M. So instead of around the minimum for Reeves you have to account for paying him that much or just letting him go.
The odd thing was that the Lakers didn't even give Kendrick Nunn the full mini MLE that year. Which we assumed was so the Lakers could sign Reeves to a longer deal using part of the MLE. Nope they just signed him to the basic 2 year minimum deal. Will he ever learn from his mistakes? |
